June 10

I would like to thank Metrolinx Community Office staff for meeting with me, deal with various issues and providing me with information on various requests. If others have questions and issues, they should contact staff by phone, email or drop by the office with the chance that they may be out in the community that day as they have a busy summer in front of them.

Sadly, it looks like Mobilinx is going to do nothing for the closure at Fairview Dr for the westside sidewalk. An old sign from the building of the guideway at Fairview Drive is being used that is about twenty-five feet south of the Hurontario St crossing that is saying use the north sidewalk. North sidewalk when it is the west side that is close? A person will walk about 200 feet south of Fairview Dr before they come upon the handmade sign saying the sidewalk is close. The apartment residents still telling people that the sidewalk is close. Sorry Mobilinx, unacceptable and non-pedestrian friendly.

Since I had to wait for a couple of packages, it delays me a few extra few days leaving town, that I looked at the west sidewalk today.

The sidewalk is being built for both bike lanes and sidewalk I thought it would be when the retaining wall was built.

As for the ramp to the Go station, there are several issues if one can be built. The big one is this there to be a walkway between the current track and the future track 4? If there is to be one, the current one will have to shift to the south to be in the centre of the two tracks. The next issue is the clearance between the ramp and the new 4th track bridge. Both issues are not part of the current contract work. The current stairs will have to be rebuilt to match future needs as well as having a landing where the ramp will meet the top of the stairs. Since there isn’t enough room to add the top platform for the ramp, the stairs will have to be a L shaped. The ramp itself will need a retaining wall to support it and deal with the slop area between the fencing and the ramp.

I must correct myself on June 8th posting post information as well what I did not post that day. I rarely look at my photos and if I had that day, my comment about the white bags would have been different. The white bag is for small pieces of rebar to form the base of the tracks on top of the bridge rebar. This is like what took place on the elevated section. I don’t know if ties will be placed on this track base or anchors cast in place to hold the rail in place. Time will tell what will take place there.

Once the work is done on Dundas Street East, it will see another 6 weeks of work for utility work and could have an impact on the Cooksville BIA Taste of Cooksville on September 20th weekend. This pushes the guideway work for King St and Dundas Street intersection to the fall.

I have learned that there will be no left turn for northbound traffic at Dundas due to the Dundas Station being on the south of Dundas which is odd since all other stations have left turning lanes today.

The work that was taking place for the North Service Road had to do with relocating a pipeline running from Sarnia to Pearson Airport and odd it would be so far south.

There is talk that the northbound traffic will shift to the new underpass in July or August.

Hydro and the telecommunications providers are finally going to remove the wires and poles to allow building the guideway south of the QEW.

I heard something and don’t recall hearing it during the EA or since construction has started that the elevated line will be lighted with blue lighting like Confederation Overpass. Don’t known if anyone is aware of the blue lighting.

Some traffic that has been reinstalled will be active this year and no locations are known as to where on my end.

Construction of the missing guideway at the CP bridge is now underway with a stockpile of duct banks further to the north in the guideway.

I still stand on my late 2027 to 2028 position as when we may see service on the line and subject to several things, mainly how much more rails must be removed to deal with tack issues as well when the testbed work is to start. Then, will the Burnhamthorpe Intersection be rebuilt before service starts or after it starts as it is a 6-month project with single lane traffic for both directions from Absolute Drive to Matthew Gates south southbound traffic not interfering with the building of the wye. Burnhamthrope traffic will be single lane as well and will have to shift several times for the wye. Transit will be a mess. Both Metrolinx and Mobilinx will provide a timeframe on most things as well when the line will be in service and not surprised as we only have to look at Line 5 mess as to why.

I hope others will keep the group up to date either by written form or photos while I am away.

Is the implication that MiWay will be the operator?

I'm not sure why they'd want to even entertain that - particularly it runs through the territory of two different transit agencies (BiWay!).

No details as of yet. It's my understanding there will be a public report in September. Given the tensions between Brampton and Mississauga, one would hope the operations of this line don't get caught up in that.

The LRT goes not much further into Brampton than the recently extended 51 Tomken does. And of course Brampton already operates bus all the way to CCTT, along with decades of fare integration between the two systems.. Transit was never the source of tension, it's always been the funding of roads and police and water, the vote share on regional council, etc. When it comes to transit, the tension has always been with Toronto.

Toronto will not want anything to do with the Derry LRT, they will likely try to block it, same way that they deliberately try to impede existing MiWay bus operations in Etobicoke, so would make sense for Mississauga to operate the Hurontario LRT by itself and prepare to operate the Derry LRT too.

No pictures, but this now has asphalt laid down as of either yesterday or today. It kinda looked open but I didn't want to risk walking further than I did and discovering that it wasn't and having to backtrack. But regardless, the asphalt is done at least. And yeah it's asphalt, not concrete/sidewalk. So not sure if it's just temporary. Will see if people are able to walk on it tomorrow.

I had reached out to ML and they responded back in March of 2025 with the following:

Construction of the elevated guideway over Highway 403 Interchange is progressing with all girders now installed. The installation of the girders over the westbound lanes of Highway 403 took place in late October so we are certainly making some great progress on that portion of the project.

A couple of interesting facts about the Elevated Guideway.
  • Due to the guideway's unconventional shape, the concrete must be hand-finished rather than using a screed (machine normally used to finish concrete on a large area)
  • Due to the unique shape of the Elevated Guideway, water drainage is directed through the center of the guideway to accommodate the tracks and electrical systems along the sides.
  • Once completed, the bridge will be illuminated with unique blue lighting (please see attached renderings). This lighting is designed to assist with bird migration and helping them avoid striking the guideway.

I was walking around the Cooksville rail bridge (my old neighbourhood) a few days ago and snapped a few pics. Most of them would be redundant to what @Dan416 posted, so I'm only including four below. Some work finally progressing around the bridge pier. It feels like they've been afraid to touch it for months now with the guideway poured up to a few metres away.

The work around the pier was to be done last after station was built as well the centre barriers on the north side. Work start on or before June 10 to build the curbs and the photo shows nothing has taken place since then. Don't worry about redundant photos as they may show something new or not seen in the others shots.

This map was at the Metrolinx booth at the Pride street festival. It was posted by "not Taylor | YKF" on the Global Infrastructure and Transit Discord server, GO Transit thread.

I believe this is one of the first instances of the larger SQ1 loop being visualized. I don't recall seeing it being posted by Metrolinx on any of their feeds yet.

Thanks for this. There was a higher-res version posted on reddit. Here's the loop zoomed in...
