And not for the better - the clarity and coherence is gone, and yet it still feels rather sterile.

Yeah it would have been nice if this was more than just a recladding of the Nordstom box, and more of a rethinking of how TEC interfaces with Yonge St in this area. But tbh, I do still think this is overall better than Nordstrom, who really treated their Yonge entrances as an afterthought (when they were even open). Eataly restoring the prominent corner entrance Sears once had (and I'd argue improving it) will be a win, and it seems like Simons wants to also make the most of its limited presence on Yonge. Plus, unlike Nordstrom, it's not all greige, there's some actual colour involved here. It's nowhere near perfect, but there are a couple small wins IMO.

I hope CF applies this ceiling treatment to more of the interior of the mall. The slats with hidden lights is much better than white drywall ceilings with pot lights. Personally I'd have preferred wood slats but the glossy metal is nice too.

The dark ceilings seem to make the corridor feel taller. I swear the ceilings feel much higher but looking back at older pictures, they simply changed out the materials, same height. The lights weren't all on in this picture but the directionality of the LEDs keeps the ceiling dark while lighting the space below.

The same treatment is on the other end of Simons on the mall side.

There's far more opacity to the this Yonge stretch. Eataly opened up more of the walls with windows and as you mentioned re-opened the corner entrance.

Over on in the inside, the walk from Dundas to the main mall will feel more accessible as it'll be a 25% shorter walk through a store than when it was Eatons, Sears, and Nordstrom. Might sound insignificant but the Dundas Atrium always felt disconnected from the main mall and I'm getting the sense it'll feel more continuous now.

Between the pedigree of the tenants and the layout and design of the spaces. I'd call this Nordstrom replacement a success.

This is looking even greater than I expected. Love the green selected with the black and greys that go with it. Matches the greenish glass above. I’m liking the outside details of this store more than the Yorkdale one. Finally my downtown Simon’s I’ve been waiting ages for. Enfin!! Merci Simons

Indeed - I first shopped at Simons in Québec City 40 years ago, and it's a dream to have them here finally. I mean, they've been nearby but I'm not going to Mississauga.

They really need to fix that grill. It was already like this with Nordstrom.

Surely it cant be too complicated to reinstall the ones that are out of alignment.

A comment on Simons: I love how understated it is. You wouldn't think that this small entrance is the Eaton Centre's flagship store. Then again, there are 4 Simons signs on this outdoor façade.

You can see Nike’s stairs on the left. The store still has a lot of work left though. A birdy tells me week of October 13.

On the right, Eataly is still behind drywall but you can already imagine how open this space will feel with all three stores.

Over on the Dundas Atrium side, the new corridor and Simons’ entrance are complete.

I see the Dundas atrium every (work) day. But nice to see the progress even on WFH days. Thank you!

Ahhhh I'm so excited!

Also I noticed on my way home today that the section covered by that white sheet next to the second floor Uniqlo window isn't covered anymore. Turns out it's a screen (kinda similar to the one next to the Simons entrance). I also noticed the Uniqlo logos above the store's main entrance are screens too (not sure if I just never noticed or that was done as part of the recent renovations).

Too bad. That second floor window would've made for a good UNIQLO Coffee that has started expanding in other cities. The Dundas atrium used to be a great place to people watch but CF has done everything in its power to make sure people move along and don't linger in this space. I look forward to the day that BMO realizes that there's no point in having a branch there. Who in their right mind banks at Yonge & Dundas? That space would make an amazing LEGO store or some other experiential retail.

despite how pedestrian and unexciting banks are, in this country they seem to believe they’re on par with popular retail, and ultimately gun for the most prime of locations. See; Yonge & Bloor and other major intersections.

I don’t get it. Banks don’t induce excitement at a retail level.

To a certain extent. King and Bay has banks on all four corners and are retail hubs as well.
