On that note, I refuse to believe the last available renders for East Harbour are indicative of the final design.

I’m pensively awaiting the turnaround where the massing we see now will be detailed with materials and finesse to align with what we see on other Ontario Line stations to the West.

They are, and that wont happen. Different teams.

I also wish peeps stop posting renders and examples of what could have been and should have been. It feels like salt being rubbed into wounds at this point... /sigh

Metrolinx has stated that all renderings are subject to change so don't feel too bad about the design just yet, there's time for them to do something more interesting.

Unfortunately...
Because they are under construction and any changes at this point means stopping work, delays, and cost over-runs.
...the only changes we'll likely see is what colour they chose to paint the final structure with. >.<

The architectural documents are much less subject to change when it’s already well under construction. At best we can hope for purely cosmetic additions, maybe some nice big trees in the plaza outside.

Also Metrolinx isn’t involved with the delivery of East Harbour.

The Don Valley is a wind tunnel much of the time, but especially in winter when the cold north winds blow. The elevated, unprotected GO train platforms are going to be uncomfortable when it's cold out. Transfers involving streetcars on the Broadview Extension will likely have the same issue for lack of wind protection. I doubt the expected building boom in the area will improve things. For example, Dundas & River is at the edge of the Don Valley and it has become prone to strong wind gusts since the tall buildings went up in the Regent Park revitalization.

Apologies for the incorrect assumption. I'd rather get something nicer looking but now that I think about it, isn't most of the station going to be hidden between a large group of planned skyscrapers? Suppose the outside looks don't matter all that much then.

Well I mean, Union Station is surrounded by skyscrapers and that dank Bush Shed still stands out for being abhorrent trash, while the headhouse looks outstanding and thousands take photos of it every year.

So take that as you may.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely much of East Harbour will match the rest of OL, if any of it at all. This is because East Harbour is technically part of "SmartTrack" and therefore is being done as part of that overall package by Infrastructure Ontario, an organization that's somehow even worse at everything than Metrolinx is (there was actually a pretty good Star article a few months back about how IO is a big reason why a lot of Metrolinx projects go so badly, since they basically do all their procurement through IO). So unless portions of the OL station are separated out into a separate contract from the GO station, it's unlikely much or any of the station will resemble the other OL stations. This is also why East Harbour has always had renderings released at separate times from the other OL stations (It was the only station missing from the big render package first released, a couple years ago, for example). It's basically it's own project, which happens to include an OL station.

According to submitted architectural docs and 3D models, the OL station part of East Harbour is actually meant to look very similar to the other above-ground OL stations,

If you can’t access them I’ll upload a screenshot or two of the 3D model from my computer when I’m home tonight.
