I think it will be one street with (maybe) a sidewalk on south side. They have already paved (first coat) the north side and are currently excavating the south side (where the former lane was.) To maintain garage access to the Mill St buildings they could not do both sides at same time.

@IsaacKhouzam I have a picture for that as well, it's just not pretty. You can see with this image that the Mill Street laneway was only dug out around the parking garage exit as @DSCToronto said.

What would be amazing is if they just all used that one laneway and turned this dug area into trees, bushes, and such with a sidewalk. That said, Cherry House does have a large walkway there so there might not be a need.

I live in one of the Mill St. buildings and while I can't find the street plan/blueprints anymore, I can confirm that DSCToronto is right. The now dug-up laneway was temporary for garage access and they are supposed to be putting in a wide sidewalk adjacent to the existing buildings with benches, trees, etc.

One thing I don't know about the new street (currently called "Street A") is whether it will be one-way or two-way. For a long time cars were getting funnelled onto Trinity St. due to the fencing on Cherry, but since they opened it a few weeks ago I've seen people driving in and out from both Trinity and Cherry Streets. It seems wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic.

In the 'olden days' this was dead-end laneway that only served the garage and garbage collection for the older Mill Street buildings.

The newer developments created the opportunity to bring it right through to Cherry. One day the City (with input from the local neighbourhood association, I assume) will name the Lane and decide if it is one or two ways, it was 2-way before so I assume it will continue to be but ????

It appears that they largely just stopped at this point, for now. I saw a couple of workers on site working on these this morning. Aside from that, it looks like they are getting ready to pour the curb so they can place the rest of the interlocking.

I also suspect this is going to be a side entrance with that orange door there. Makes sense given the parking garage and dock are right there.

Ok, just had a chat with one of the workers at Cherry House. The interlocking is going to go completely around the building but he was not sure if it would be the white stones, like on the east side, or the red that they are laying in the laneway.

1.) The curb is now being poured. Hilariously, the same guy who poured the 90 Mill Street Corner is pouring this one as well. I think he recognized me 🤓

2.) Interlocking was taking so long because they need to be spaced a little further apart than they normally would do it. They say this interlocking in the laneway should be done by the end of next week. They are battling the heat right now which is slowing things down. The large gaps they are leaving along the interlocking is for tree placement.

3.) They poured a long line of concrete in the additional laneway. Apparently, this will be built up to place lamps along the lane and they are going to have large tree planters.

4.) On the north side, they initially poured concrete for the sidewalk but they have to tear all of it up since it's going to be interlocking as well and they are going to be adding trees there as well. The entire north side is going to be retail. Apparently, an 18,000sqft Shopper's will be going in on the North Side.

Also on the north west side, this guy saw me taking pictures and was all smiles and waving up on the crane as they took down the construction elevator and are attaching the external cladding.

5.) Also, on the east side, I think this is going to be the main lobby. I could see two stories of open space in there but it's hard to see in pictures...

You know when you take something large out of a box, and it’s still encased in non-descript styrofoam?

They turned that into a building

That being said, good lord I can’t believe they haven’t sealed up the buildings yet. This thing is the North Market of rental condos.

They are making good progress...

The curbs are all set for interlocking on the east and west side of the laneway

The west building lobby door was opened and I snapped some shots of the front desk.

All the cladding on the lower half of the west building, where the construction elevator was, is done and they are moving up the building. Also, seeing these pieces at eye level gives you an idea of how big they are.

Thanks for all the pics @GameOnBrad but I continue to think this is a very cheap-looking building - too bad as it is in a great location and really could have looked SO much better if anyone cared.

I'm not sure if it's cheap, so much as weird. I would love to know what was going through the architect's head when they thought this up.

Often weird in a good way, IMO...

I don't think it looks cheap or weird. It's interesting, different, unique, perhaps a bit blockish. To me this seems European something one would see in Berlin or Warsaw. The pinkish flesh toned lower part is a bit off. Having said all this I have to go there and see it finished in person to ultimately decide.
B+ IMHO

I have a thing for floorplans. I still haven't seen anything online. Even snooping onto floorplan centric websites and such 😑

I wonder if they want to open at least one of the buildings before 2026? Maybe November?
