I guess that temporary busway will have plenty of time to be in service. Under the original timeline, it was only going to be around for a few years service, but I'm guessing it will be in use for a decade before the trains run
The busway is intended to remain after the opening of the SSE as well.

I can't see that they'll need more bus bays than they have now.

How many do they have now? Or at least pre-Line 3 closure?
with the TTC taking over the GO portion of Scarborough Centre Station, I would estimate around 20 bays? I only counted one side of the station but that sounds about right.

How many years ago did TTC take over the GO portion of the station? I thought that was after Line 3 closed.

Looking at the 2022 list of routes at Scarborough Centre station, there's only 12 (plus the 3 express routes that would share the platform with the local route). At least 3 of these would be better served terminating at Sheppard East, as they are driving right past the station. (130 Middlefield, 131 Nugget, and 169 Huntingwood).

So that's 9 platforms needed? 18 platforms does seem excessive.

There's also the various express routes like 996, 939, 904, 903 to take in into account and those all have a dedicated bus bay. It would also be wise to factor in space to make shuttle buses more efficient when the line inevitably goes down.
I do agree that they won't need as much in the future, since many routes could terminate at sheppard instead.

The express buses work well without their own bays at other stations. They only need to be in the departure bay for a couple of minutes, and there shouldn't be buses scheduled the same time for both local and express. It's also easier for riders to only have one stop to catch the bus, instead of 2.

A lot of stations don't use the bus loops even now, when service is down. I don't think that this needs to be a (very) expensive design factor.

Sometime late in 2022 or early in 2023. GO buses were relocated around October 2022, and the earliest photo I have of a TTC bus using the platform for passenger loading is dated April 26:

129, 130, 131, 132, 169 can all move to McCowan/Sheppard station.

129 will likely continue south or 21 might continue north. But 939 and possibly 985 won’t need to enter Scarborough Centre Station. Eleven bays ought to be enough for the TTC, though GO and DRT will want their own.

t's not technically impossible, just expensive. And they've chosen not to.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but am I misremembering having read that the line 5 platforms at Kennedy are right up against the line 2 tunnels, and therefore the only way to allow through service onto Eglinton East would have been to go for a surface alignment?

Metrolinx was given the option of building a dual tunnel that could support the LRT stacked on top of the subway extension, but chose to opt for a subway only tunnel due to cost considerations.

I thought it was going to curve around the north.

Was this option before or after they changed the SSE design for the stacked tail tracks east of Kennedy?

What they should've done was put a stop at brimley / I was told the station would be on an Angle so Metrolinx didn't wanna put one in

That makes sense from a design perspective.

London UK has a few stations on angels and bends. It's part of the reason for "minding the gap"
