There have been 'murmurings' of MAYBE bringing the Yonge St bike lanes up Scott to Front or Colborne from The Esplanade but nothing definite and if Scott is actually closed for bit below Front this will clearly not work.

AFIK, the Wellington plans do not bring bike stuff east of Simcoe/University. The new part of Wellington, east of Yonge, is really too narrow to add bike lanes without removing other (useful) things like the newly widened sidewalks. Many of the streets downtown really cannot 'do everything'.

I am pretty sure @Northern Light mentioned the possibility of the Wellington cycling infrastructure (which would be a bi-directional cycle track replacing just one car lane) eventually extending to Scott so it could connect to the Esplanade bike infrastructure.

I personally think Wellington can survive being one car + 1 car & streetcar lane for one block from Yonge to Scott.

There are as many possibilities as there are streets. If Scott is to be blocked at Front as is certainly under very active discussion and there are thus no bike lanes ON Scott, I doubt there will be any wish to bring Wellington lanes to Scott

This is what I meant, it wasn't just one of many possibilities but something that I think was actually considered.

Across to Church/Front was considered, but its a complex intersection..

Ultimately the choice was to go with the Esplanade as the main route in S/E downtown (north of the rail corridor), and Wellington in the West, the remaining issue was how to make the connection between the two.

Scott is the most likely choice, but we're not there yet.

I trust @Northern Light 's knowledge on the planning of the bike network.

Keeping in mind that things are on hold for a bit because of the Premier.....

The City's written, planned intent is to take the Cycle Track east to York Street for now.

But they are definitely gunning to take it further and facilitate a connection south to the Esplanade Cycle track.

But nothing is approved or in design, its subject to further discussion.

Its possible they would end at Yonge but that requires a cycle track on Yonge. Which is possible. But last I heard, Scott was very much under consideration.

Scott was certainly being discussed last year as a possible Yonge alternative but with the SLCA plans getting more detail and the closure of Scott from Front to Scott Lane for a Plaza and performance space looking more likely, there may be no space. As I noted above, the SLNA announced last night that they and BIA were attending a meeting with Councillors and Transportation to look at the streets in the area - I think CEO of CreateTO may also be attending - he also spoke at SLNA last night.

I guess they could block Scott St to cars south of Front St and still put in a bike lane. Not ideal.
Yonge St - The Esplanade to Front St has a bike lane.
Yonge St north of Front St does not look good for bikes. So, Scott St north of Front seems like a viable option. Wellington would then work between Scott and Yonge.
A 2 way bike lane on Front St between Yonge and Scott St, on the north side, could work with parking removed.

I think the idea of a bike lane ONLY on the northern part of Scott @ SLCA/Meridian is one of the things being discussed but the CreateTO plans have a large plaza with a stage etc so fitting it in and avoiding 'confrontations' is not going to be easy. That said, Scott Street ends at Colborne where it turns into Victoria which has very narrow blocks to King & Adelaide and not very wide blocks further north, made more 'challenging' with the streetcar tracks going north from Adelaide.

I really should start going to these meetings. They sound like they need someone under 60 years old to attend.

98 The Esplanade
Does anyone know what is happening to this commercial property? They have been tearing it apart for weeks. They threw out the lockers from the former gym last evening and now they have a digger going in and out with cement blocks.

I heard and posted here a few months ago that this will be a Dollarama. My (usually reliable) source confirmed again recently that this continues to be the plan but I agree it seems to be taking a long time.

I saw them ripping out a bunch of drywall earlier this week. Had a peek inside and it looks like they've made very little progress on the Dollarama so far. Still in the early demolition of whatever was there previously.

Not that you needed any affirmation, as Mayor of St. Lawrence, you do have an ear the ground..... just the same:

Note the permit issue date, so they haven't been working on it (legally) all that long.

More than a decade ago it was where Mike Bullard had his late night TV show, then it was a gym, then a temporary shelter
