See y'all there?

At the St Lawrence Neighbourhood Assn meeting last evening it was announced that Transportation has convened some sort of initial consultation with the Councillors' Offices (Mallik & Moise), the SLNA and the BIA to discuss 'the western Esplanade' (I assume Yonge to Lower Jarvis) and how best to adjust traffic if/when the Scott Plaza is created at Scott/Front (linking Meridian and St Lawrence Centre and closing the upper portion of Scott to traffic.) No details but, as one might imagine, some Esplanadians were concerned that their travel will be disrupted.

Interesting idea. Are there any renders or diagrams of this proposal floating around? Would Scott be closed from traffic from Wellington down to Esplanade?

I wasn’t at the meeting but with The Esplanade bike lanes being installed, The Esplanade (was planned) for one way WB only from Church to Scott. With the New St. Lawrence Centre build, traffic is planned to be closed between 1 Scott Condo/parking garage/Laneway to Front St. I think that is good but I like that route now.

I can see all this still happening. The new bike lanes will make it a little longer drive for me going home from the west / Yonge St.
EB Esplanade access to our parking garage would be nice though.

I don’t see the big deal, although EB Front St. E between Scott and Church is usually backed up at night.
If they build the new condos at 45 The Esplanade, I could see them closing the back laneway, the bike lanes, EB Esplanade and the south sidewalk for a few years. Assuming EB Esplanade would still be closed. That would be a pain.
As long as no one double parks, we’re all good. Haha.

If they close access from Front St to SB Scott St. I don’t see why they couldn’t close access to NB Scott St up to 33 Yonge St. parking garage. Access it from Wellington St. I like this car route now too. Oh well. The back way around downtown laneways.

I think we are still at the 'concept stage" but 'plan' is to shut Scott between SCOTT LANE and FRONT (the lower section is needed for access to Scott Lane and SLCA loading dock.)

I am not sure if this is on the table, but it WILL be closed as you suggest for the CreateTO festival weekend that is coming up in mid-August

Agreed but this seems unlikely with the new lights being installed at Scott/Front. On that note, if we're closing Scott south of Front, why are these lights being installed at all? I was under the impression they were being installed for vehicles going NB on past Front.

Either way, if I had it my way I would do the below, leaving space for the 33 Yonge garage:

I really should start going to these meetings. They sound like they need someone under 60 years old to attend.

Since it is Toronto, I think the fact that the City just installed traffic lights at Front & Scott is totally unconnected to any talk of Scott being closed at Front (a plan that has been under discussion for a year or more connected to SLCA rebuild.)

If you (or anyone) wants to get emails from SLNA , you can get on their mailing list from their website www.slna.ca Since covid their monthly meetings have all been Zoom only, last night was first in-person one for several years. Though their meetings are (normally) open to all, if you live in a member building you should look into having your building appoint you as a voting delegate. There are some younger delegates but I think more would be good!

So the plan is for The Esplanade bike lanes to end at Scott St, and then for Scott Street to be closed at Front Street? Isn't it supposed to connect to the future Wellington bike lane extension? Will the connect The Esplanade bike lanes to Wellington at Church instead of Scott St?

I’m not familiar with Wellington bike lanes. Too far north for me?

These screen shots are from a 2021 report. I’m not up to date on the final design. Maybe it’s here.

I’m not sure where the free parking anywhere Blue Handicap stickers are going to park now. Referring to the scammers only.

Target Parking at 35 The Esplanade cracked down on over 100+ cars not paying for daily parking and not paying their parking tickets this month. A lot less pickup trucks in the parking lot these days.

There have been 'murmurings' of MAYBE bringing the Yonge St bike lanes up Scott to Front or Colborne from The Esplanade but nothing definite and if Scott is actually closed for bit below Front this will clearly not work.

AFIK, the Wellington plans do not bring bike stuff east of Simcoe/University. The new part of Wellington, east of Yonge, is really too narrow to add bike lanes without removing other (useful) things like the newly widened sidewalks. Many of the streets downtown really cannot 'do everything'.

Not quite in the neighbourhood per se, but traffic light installation at Adelaide and Ontario Street is nearing completion.
