Actually, Highway 6 between Highway 401 and Guelph is a controlled access highway, even though it has traffic signals. What it means is that access is limited to certain intersections and that private driveway access is restricted or prohibited.
When people take about a control access highway, I'm pretty sure they mean fully controlled with ramps and no at-grade intersections. The Halton Expressway is more of an example of a limited access highway with some control access sections.

Harris thought of that workaround. The 407 lease includes a non-compete clause preventing the province from building another highway within a certain distance of the 407.

There is an allowance for public transit, such as BRT or rail, within the 407 corridor.
Yeah I do know about the transit ROW, I address it often… I guess the only people who could do this sort of parallel highway would be the 407 consortium itself, but then again they are more restricted to the immediate ROW than even the Province.

Speaking of, how far does this ‘control’ buffer apply? Not that I think it’s a good idea to use, but the Finch hydro corridor is about equidistant from the 401 and 407.

Only a certain part of it is, the rest is a multilane divided

Highway 3 freeway- province is lowballing farmers for their land https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/lond...ince-s-lowball-expropriation-offers-1.7480563

The province wants the land to build a new cloverleaf interchange that will connect Wonderland Road with an expanded Highway 3. Right now the roads meet at odd angles. Traffic in the area is growing with the Amazon logistics plant nearby and the Volkswagen PowerCo battery plant under construction on the other side of St. Thomas.

Thats a lot of work

When will the widening construction on Highway 401 start (10 lanes Milton to Kitchener/Waterloo, 6 lanes London to Tilbury, Durham region widening, and 6 lanes from Durham region to ONT-QBC border)?
Also, will Highway 401 ever be widened from K/W to London? because I feel like it may need widening.

At various times there is a need for a 3rd lane between KW and Woodstock today let alone going to 5. You need to move to 5 lanes now between Woodstock and Hwy 402 with at lest 3-4 lanes to Windsor.

Need 3-4 lanes going east of Whitby to Quebec and more so 4-5 where there are grades that slow tuckers down as well traffic as one trucker tries to pass another on that grade.

A number of bridges between Milton to Windsor still need to be replace to handle 5 lanes of traffic. Same going east to Quebec that will be costly as well a year of construction for each bridge and some 20+ years down the road to be completed before widening can take place.

I would suggest that the need for 3-4 lanes eastbound from Whitby is over stated. I travel the route frequently enough to believe that expansions should be concentrated through urban areas, Trenton etc, some of the hillier sections and steeper grades (especially in merging areas and some approaches to service areas). Beyond that, I am not sold on the immediate need for 3-4 lanes continuously to the Quebec border, especially after Kingston and most definitely after the cutoffs for Ottawa.

I think we need to be a little more fiscally responsible in our requests to satisfy our absolute needs.

Personally speaking, improve the VIA service between Montreal, Kingston and Toronto, and that is where I would be spending money.

The new bridge that is being built at Leslie and 401 - is this meant for the Leslie St SB to 401 EB on-ramp? Or is this to replace the collector lanes?

Part of a series of bridge rehabilitation projects, I believe. Not sure if they will change the lane configuration long term, though I recall reading that. Some details here from AECOM

That new bridge, significantly adds to the width of the 401 in that location. Keep in mind that the 401 is only 6 lanes eastbound in this section. This would more than allow them to make it 7 lanes right here.
