When Kevin Jazexhi decided to work on a project that would be a game-changer for Toronto’s waterfront, he didn’t think he’d end up with something the size of Queens Harbour. The new lakeside spot is almost comically big at 23,000 square feet, with a retractable roof rivalled only by the Rogers Centre. “My sister Iris and I had always been interested in opening something on the waterfront,” says Jazexhi. “But the property my real estate agent showed me was the 2,000-square-foot former Lavazzo café next door. When I told him it was too small, he showed me this place. I told him he was insane, but here we are.”

Reopening on August 15, the new Bar Reyna features three distinct spaces that land somewhere between Lawrence of Arabia and The Real Housewives of Miami—think azure and dusty rose accents, plush fabrics, pergolas, greenery and flowers. The refreshed menu blends signature favourites (don’t worry: the Bar Reyna salad, falafel and lamb baklava tacos are still on it) with some modern, slightly stepped-up snacks.

A new collaboration between cocktail nerd Nick Hao (Slice of Life), coffee-and-vinyl guy Nigel Wang (Rooms, 915 Dupont) and Mother alumnus Stephen Luo is set to serve west-end bar-goers this September.

Tucked beneath MSSM Ossington in a moody basement clad in oak and concrete (dank, but make it fashion), Uh Bar channels Hao’s vision of scaled-up simplicity. “I’ve been in the bar industry for quite a while now. People constantly use fresh ideas and bold concepts to inspire guests,” says Hao. “I used to love this approach and immersed myself in cocktails, trying to deepen my knowledge of the craft. But recently I remembered my first simple glass of Jack Daniel’s and how that pure feeling has never been matched. That’s what I want Uh Bar to offer our guests—a place that just feels like a bar, somewhere to relax, not overthink and simply enjoy the moment.” So, uh bar where you can have uh drink and maybe uh snack with uh friend.

Pedal Pub Toronto has teamed up with Collective Arts to sling craft beers, $7 vodka sodas and other ready-to-drink cocktails as a dozen or so pedallers—likely tourists, possibly a bachelorette party in matching outfits—sweat their way down King West and along the waterfront

There are rules, though, sort of: pedal pubs need a city-approved route, a licensed and sober driver, and $2 million in insurance. They also can’t set their wheels on roads with speed limits over 40 kilometres per hour, which unfortunately means they’ll still be sticking to the already jam-packed streets of the downtown core. But, hey, it’s a win for tourism and the ongoing liberalization of Ontario’s liquor laws—at least some of us will be enjoying a cold one while stuck in gridlock. Cheers!

haha what's your takes on this!

East-enders who are also fans of Singaporean cheese shop and café Kiss My Pans no longer have to travel to Little Italy for their hawker-style cuisine.
This place is a meme with my partner and I because I think the signage outside is so funny - like, why are we kissing pans? Is Singapore known for cheese? It's so much all at once lol

No issues here. I've visited other cities where I've seen this before. If some folks enjoy it and it's an economic driver then alright with me.
