Speaking of The Burger's Priest, the Etobicoke, Mississauga and Oakville locations are "temporarily closed" and have been that way for at least a week, anyone know what's going on?

Last Tuesday, the Etobicoke location was hit with arson for the fourth time.

Perhaps it's a safety precaution?

Anyone have any great Summerlicious recommendations? We've got a date night this weekend (kid sleeping at the grandparents' place!). This is the preliminary list I'm working off of. No Italian or pub food, as we get plenty of that when we go out with the kid.

Pukka - $35 - Indian - St. Clair W
Aamara - $55 - Indian - St. Clair W
AYLA - Hong Kong - $65 - Dundas W
Miss Ivy - Asian Fusion - $55 - Queen W
Ngogo - French/Korean - $35 - Queen w
Curryish Tavern - Indian - $45 - Queen W
La Nayarita - Mexican - $55 - Queen W
Le Lert - Thai - $45 - Yonge and Carleton
Patois - $55 - Carribean - Dundas W
R&D - Chinese - $55 - Spadina
Seoul House - Korean BBQ - Dufferin/Orfus - $35

You don't go to a 24 hour diner, especially after an evening of drinking, looking for fresh ingredients imo. You want inexpensive but filling greasy diner food. And cheap drinks like $5 (now $6) Caesars.

At least that's why I went there. And I think that's what the people wanted and were rightfully in my opinion upset when they lost it.

I don't think the people wanted a porterhouse with horseradish aioli, confit garlic and smoked potatoes for $89 (!!!!). Or three bagels with cream cheese and caviar for $145 (!!!). These were menu item on the new menu.

And worst of all the Caesars were $14 then! Insane!

It sure felt like quasi-fine dining to me when I saw the new menu.

I am 100% with @Towered on this one 😂.
This right here. Mic drop.

That's ridiculous. This place sounds no more mainstream than Burdock Brewery, Gus Tacos, Pizzeria Via Mercanti, Trinity Common, Otto's Berlin Doner, etc. It's pretty much exactly what belongs in Kensington.
I stand by my statement. Sports fans and jocks have literally thousands of generic bars with zero personality loaded with wall to wall tv's to watch their crap.

Keep this tiny sliver of downtown for the weirdos.

Has anyone heard which restaurant is coming to the York Blvd restaurant campus in Richmond Hill (Hwy 7 & Hwy 404). This is what it looks like to date.

I'm still yet to go to one. Though perhaps I'm just weary since I always have the feeling that their price point doesnt match the food - it feels like yuppie branding, which I can't stand. That, and their Yonge/Eg location is always an Uber zoo....I don't touch anything on that corner with a ten foot clownpole because I'm so tired of that POPS.

I find a Wendy's Baconator basically tastes the same as a bacon cheeseburger from these 'higher' end places like Burger Priest

I went to them when they were new, and had extensive discussions with the then owner (Shant Mardirosian) who was working on his perfect fries.

Back then, all meat was ground fresh in house, daily or even twice daily, they had the perfect 80/20 chuck, and the patties were juicy, as in drip down your face goodness, remember the napkins!

The fries were quite good too.

The price was always steep, but you were getting something extra for the $$.

Now, of course, they are a Recipe Unlimited chain.

I'm not sure if they still grind their own meat in each store, I don't see that claim on the website.

The last time I was in a 'Priest' the burger wasn't as juicy, I suspect overcooking and/or lower fat content in the patties. But I think its probably the former, chains will not trust staff or their meat quality to a medium cook on the patties (a hint of pink).

I used to like Burgers Priest before they were a chain, the food quality was actually pretty good. Once everything was turned into a chain, the quality went very commercialized and downhill.

During Covid I used to eat the Four Horseman burgers on a regular basis. Nothing like a heartattack in a bun!

I never visited Burger's Priest before it was purchased Recipe International, so can't speak to its quality in the old days, but I've always been pleased by their burgers and fries.
