Opening soon in Bloor West Village (2190 Bloor St W):
Marvelous by Fred/Aux Merveilleux de Fred
(CINNAHOLIC was previous occupant and did not last long)
This weirdly named place won't last long. Just bring back Timmothy's already, since this location has been a new idea every year or two after they left.

They seem to have many locations worldwide, including Montreal, so they may know what they're doing.

Okay, I am wrong. They will do well. I overlooked the fact that they are going to have more space than their Queen street location to work with.
There will be a patio in the summer and more seating area inside for the winter, so hopefully it all works out for them.

Seriously, Italian is the least impressive meal eaten at a restaurant, and the easiest to replicate at home. Big-time rip-off in the Italian fine-dining ecosystem.

Culinary perception is often driven by branding, mainstream embracement, and chef influencers. I remember watching an episode of one of Anthony Bourdain's shows once, where he asked a fellow in Portugal why Portuguese cuisine isn't internationally renowned. And he replied that it's due to "you guys" (as in the Americans) not acknowledging or embracing it in the same way that they do with Italian and French cuisine.

In a similar breath, there's also the perception of value dichotomy. Such as Chinese food should be considered cheap, while Japanese food is high end. Along with how Mexican food should be cheap, while Spanish food should be sophisticated because it's European etc. Even though all cuisines ultimately have have a spectrum of casual to fine dining.

Sloppy Joe's in the Long Branch area of Etobicoke has permanently closed:

Golden Wheat Bakery at 652 College Street has closed down after 32 years

Not sure if this has been posted but the Victory Building by Queen station (80 Richmond Str West) has a new tenant, a Florin Trattoria is set to open soon, though online sources are pretty bar bones atm

"In a sense, Runway 06 is COC taken to the next level. It’s (much) bigger, wilder and—being an air-travel-themed supper club—even more transportive. Visitors receive boarding passes at the door, the cocktails and dishes take diners around the world, and cabaret performances may involve sexy takes on the in-flight safety demonstration. There’s also a VIP bar hidden behind a massive video screen displaying different corners of the globe. “If our host writes ‘first class’ on your boarding pass, you get to access our VIP departure lounge, with a totally different menu of top-shelf cocktails,” says Singhal. “It’s an exclusive experience, like the Air Canada Lounge.”"

Art's honest opinion: super lackluster, food from all over the word sounds good on concept but not in the restaurant business to be "jack of all trade...master of none", food portion was little and charged too high, service was meh and they overcharged my friend and I cocktail & beer on the 2 separate occasion i went.

This place is great for flashy and letting people know you are to be seen!

damn another Italian....!

upon digging it's owned by the same hospitality group as Mother's Tongue (https://www.turnerhospitalitygroup.com/restaurants/)

Looks like they are expanding and are considered a top tier tenant hence their ability to lease at 80 Richmond Street West - leasing done by DREAM REIT

Pennies Bar is opening at 667 College St, the southwest corner with Beatrice St

Based on their reply to a commenter, this will be in addition to their existing location at Strachan and Adelaide

I can finally report that Kettleman's Bagels near Yonge and Eglinton has closed - this was previously the Prohibition Bar which had similar troubles. The restaurant was never really that busy AFAIK, and it definitely died down right after it opened - I think anyway.
