Looks like the announcement of the winner is tomorrow.
Not entirely sure what the 4 month delay was for though
I’d wager they needed to make sure the government was not about to collapse and expend the political capital for nothing. Given that parliament has been prorogued until March, that risk has been largely eliminated.

If you can't get access to the Star article, don't worry. Literally all of the information it contains is in what generalcanada posted. We'll have to wait and see if it happens and what they choose to release. I'm prepared to be disappointed by the level of detail we get.

CDPQ won, pretty sure thats what the announcement said back in october

and PM press release

the rebranded name of the high speed rail is called "ALTO"

I'm pretty concerned that air Canada is part of this consortium, it just screams conflict of interest with their competing business models. Hopefully, they won't be incompetent enough to scuttle this project.

Also very one sided towards French companies. How can they say they're an international consortium when they're all based out of Paris and Montréal? Sounds political to me

Interesting as that's what the rumour was months ago.

300 km/hr. Someone is taking the high view, that's for sure. But enough of the Latin puns. :)

I don't see how very much of the Havelock subdivision alignment east of Peterborough will be reusable.

It would be nice if we used one thread for this, as it's neither VIA Rail - or the existing corridor. Perhaps time for a new thread, now this is official?

That alignment looks like the CP track from Union up to Leaside.

But what is Montreal? If that's actually the rough alignment, then that's sharing the existing tunnel (not!) or a new tunnel. Or a schematic.

Development phase 5-6 years. Construction for each phase at least 5-7 years. So realistically, this will be operational in 15 years if all goes well. Canada is a joke.
