BREAKING: Donald Trump and MAGA Health Secretary RFK Jr. get nightmare news as a super-coalition of Attorneys General from 19 states and D.C. band together to sue the administration over its "unconstitutional dismantling" of the Department of Health and Human Services.

And it gets even better...

"This administration is not streamlining the federal government; they are sabotaging it and all of us," said New York Attorney General Letitia James.

"When you fire the scientists who research infectious diseases, silence the doctors who care for pregnant patients, and shut down the programs that help firefighters and miners breathe or children thrive, you are not making America healthy – you are putting countless lives at risk," she added.

The mega-lawsuit demands that RFK's so-called "restructuring" be stopped because it has resulted in the destruction of the agency and the dissolution of crucial life-saving programs.

Under Kennedy, the agency has been carrying out mass layoffs and compacted 28 agencies into 15 while closing half of HHS's regional offices. The result is a crippled agency incapable of tending to the needs of the American people or properly preparing for the future.

The lawsuit points out that the firings were particularly targeted at workers from "disfavored work and programs" including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Given Kennedy's anti-vax positions and anti-science beliefs, this should not be surprising.

"In its first three months, Secretary Kennedy and this administration deprived HHS of the resources necessary to do its job,” the Attorneys General wrote. "The terminations and reorganizations happened quickly, but the consequences are severe, complicated, and potentially irreversible."

The suit alleges that the administration has violated hundreds of laws in its slash-and-burn approach, undermined and circumvented Congress, and "trampled the constitutional separation of powers."

Arizona California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia are all involved in the suit.

What's the issue? Sounds like exactly what MAGA voters wanted.

Could have posted to a "2026 World Cup" thread, but seems more appropriate here.

JD Vance seemingly issues threat to all tourists thinking about coming to US for 2026 World Cup

From https://www.unilad.com/news/world-news/jd-vance-us-fifa-world-cup-2026-warning-tourists-937994-20250507

Because no one wants to risk a trip to the 'world's worst prison', eh?

If you're planning to travel to the US to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Vice President JD Vance has a warning for you.

Despite 'fumbling' the handling of the National Championship Football trophy when Ohio State University visited the White House last month, vice president JD Vance has been appointed by Donald Trump as vice chair of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Vance was rinsed on social media after dropping the trophy, seeing it split in two. One jokester even said the trophy was 'a metaphor for the US economy'.

However, he's since addressed the awkward moment during a press conference about the upcoming world cup - due to be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico - held yesterday (May 6), and he also issued a warning for some of those planning to attend.
Vance said: "I'm proud to be the vice chair of this for a couple of reasons. First of all, the last time the president had me round the national or international sports trophy was the College Football Playoff National Championship, and I almost broke it, and so I appreciate the president giving me a second chance here.
"But of course, everybody is welcome to come and see this incredible event. I know we'll have visitors probably from close to 100 countries.
"We want them to come. We want them to celebrate. We want them to watch the game."
Alas, there was a 'but' to Vance's speech, as the VP continued: "But, when the time is up, they'll have to go home, otherwise they'll have to talk to secretary Noem."
During the meeting, Noem - the US' Homeland Security Secretary - predicted over two million foreign visitors are expected to travel to the US for the cup.
She noted her department will work alongside the FBI and Department of State to ensure it goes 'smoothly'.

Transportation secretary Sean Duffy echoed a similar sentiment, reported by the Guardian as noting: "This is a short-term push of people coming in to see soccer matches, and then they’ll go home [...] But don’t overstay your visa."

Their comments follow Trump having signed executive orders cracking down on immigrants and green hard holders, as he has enacted mass deportations leading to over 250 alleged criminals being sent to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador, which has been dubbed the 'world's worst prison'.

A man named Kilmar Armando Ábrego García, from Maryland, was sent there last month, with Trump's administration later admitting his deportation was due to an 'admin error'.

Despite acknowledging the 'error', the Supreme Court ruling Trump's administration must 'facilitate' García's return, and Trump admitting he 'could' ask El Salvador to return the father, García has yet to make it back to the US.

Pope Leo XIV called out Vice President J.D. Vance in a social media post just weeks ago bluntly calling him “wrong.”

Posting on his X profile as Cardinal Robert Prevost, he criticized Vance for an interview he gave about Christianity on Fox News.

“JD Vance is wrong,” he said. “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”

The new pope, 69, posted the rebuke on X, together with a link to an article from the National Catholic Reporter reporting on the fallout from Vance’s remarks.

Vance had claimed that a teaching known as “ordo amoris” justified MAGA’s crackdowns on immigrants. “[Y]ou love your family, and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens in your own country, and then after that you can focus and prioritize the rest of the world,” Vance said in late January.

But Pope Francis spoke out strongly against him, giving the Catholic convert a lesson on theology in a public letter—and his successor, Pope Leo XIV tweeted his approval.

The tweet is one of a series which will be heavily scrutinized for clues about the first American pope’s political views—and none appear to be in favor of Trump. Full story https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-pope-leo-xiv-bashed-jd-vance-on-twitter-just-weeks-ago/

Officials: Newark mayor arrested at ICE detention center where he was protesting

Mayor Baraka was accompanying a congressional delegation at the facility to conduct an oversight inspection.

Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center after an argument with agents. Members of congress here for a scheduled visit, were shoved after trying to include Baraka in conversations after he gained entry through the gate

Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, said on the social platform X that Baraka committed trespass and ignored warnings from Homeland Security personnel to leave Delaney Hall, an ICE detention facility run by private prison operator GEO Group.

The mayor has been protesting the opening of the facility throughout this week, saying its operators did not get proper permits.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested Friday at an federal immigration detention center where he has been protesting its opening this week, a federal prosecutor said.

Alina Habba, interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, said on the social platform X that Baraka committed trespass and ignored warnings from Homeland Security personnel to leave Delaney Hall, an detention facility run by private prison operator GEO Group.

Baraka, a Democrat who is running to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy, has embraced the fight with the Trump administration over illegal immigration.

He has aggressively pushed back against the construction and opening of the 1,000-bed detention center, arguing that it should not be allowed to open because of building permit issues.

Witnesses said the arrest came after Baraka attempted to join a scheduled tour of the facility with three members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation, Reps. Robert Menendez, LaMonica McIver, and Bonnie Watson Coleman.

When federal officials blocked his entry, a heated argument broke out, according to Viri Martinez, an activist with the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice. It continued even after Baraka returned to the public side of the gates.

“There was yelling and pushing,” Martinez said. “Then the officers swarmed Baraka. They threw one of the organizers to the ground. They put Baraka handcuffs and put him in an unmarked car.”

In her social media post, Habba said Baraka had “chosen to disregard the law.” She added that he was taken into custody.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that as a bus of detainees was entering the detention center, “a group of protestors, including two members of the U.S. House of Representatives, stormed the gate and broke into the detention facility.”

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin was quote in the statement as calling it “beyond a bizarre political stunt” and saying it put agents’ and detainees’ safety at risk.

“Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility,” McLaughlin said.

The department said the facility has the proper permits and inspections have been cleared.

An email and phone message left with the mayor’s communications office were not immediately answered Friday afternoon. Kabir Moss, a spokesperson for Baraka’s gubernatorial campaign, said, “We are actively monitoring and will provide more details as they become available.”

The two-story building next to a county prison formerly operated as a halfway house.

Then in February, ICE awarded a 15-year contract to The Geo Group Inc. to run the Newark detention center. Geo valued the contract at $1 billion, which is an unusually long and large agreement for ICE.

The announcement was part of President Donald Trump’s plans to sharply increase detention beds nationwide from a budget of about 41,000 beds this year.

Baraka sued GEO Group soon after the deal was announced.
