I think Kirsten did a good job trying to be diplomatic, and inoffensive, as her job dictates, while also giving a mainly American audience the Canadian perspective on recent events.

I think the most striking question though was the one about whether Trump influenced the Canadian elections and why Canadians 'picked' Mr. Carney.

That's not really something an apolitical representative of Canada should comment on...

It did occur to me that while the interviewer was aware her job was apolitical, he probably has the U.S. system of Presidentially appointed ambassadors (often overtly partisan, with changes following a U.S. election) in his head.

In Canada, while those appointments do ultimately come before cabinet, they are more commonly career diplomatic appointments, or at least more qualified, and typically these don't align with Canadian elections, but when someone's term comes up (Ambassador's) or when they resign/retire etc.
I hope she’s setting the rules of engagement for Carney’s upcoming visit to the White House. We cannot have our PM humiliated like Zelenskyy. For starters, no media cameras and no JD participation.

I say let it happen.

Having Trump go off on the Canadian PM live on camera will only make things worse for him with people like the UK, Australia, etc.

We are one step above Ukraine in terms of global standing and that would be akin to Trump losing it on Keir Starmer

I'm not familiar with how much hands-on control the Embassy would have in the visit other than being a conduit, but, for sure, the PMO is going to have to be ready for that. This Administration clearly engineers those public sittings as either a drive-by lynching or love-fest, depending on what they want to achieve.

Greenland and Canada have resources that Trump would like to get his grubby hands on. Cuba has not got much to offer (or to be taken). In any case, if one starts annexing neighbours you may as well be Russia!
Sure it does. This is a guy who's peace proposal for the Middle East involved building resorts in Gaza. And we wonder what resources he could possibly exploit in Cuba?

If they don't want JD to be in the meeting, they should just make sure there's a really comfy couch in the antechamber.

Canadian auto parts manufacturers to get a break from Trump tariffs

New guidance says CUSMA-compliant parts will face a 0 per cent tariff, while others face a 25 per cent rate.

From https://www.thestar.com/business/canadian-auto-parts-manufacturers-to-get-a-break-from-trump-tariffs/article_c21f7bcc-c96b-4792-8a72-339dfdcd429c.html

Just hours before it was set to take another tariff hit, Canadian automotive industry can breathe a partial sigh of relief.

New guidance from a U.S. border and customs agency suggests that Canadian automotive parts that follow the rules of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement won’t be subject to new import tariffs.

On X, the head of Canada’s Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association noted the new guidance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which says CUSMA-compliant parts will face a 0 per cent tariff, while others face a 25 per cent rate.

“It looks like the White House agrees that tariffs on Canadian parts would shut down American auto,” posted Flavio Volpe, CEO of APMA.

The guidance came just over a day ahead of May 3, when all automotive parts were set to get hit with the 25 per cent tariffs.

Of course Trump gets Charles Kushner, the father of his son in law, to be the US ambassador to France and Monaco:
