Most likely he does know, and he's lying. But he doesn't care about tariffs increasing costs to consumers because he and his friends have so much disposable income that it doesn't matter to them.

Deep in my soul I’m hoping for a 9.9 Richter scale earthquake to occur under DC the moment Trump is sworn in.

Small bit of science here............

The largest earthquake in recorded history is 9.5

A 9.9 quake would be 2.5x the size, but 3.9x more energy would be released.

The spread of serious damage (beyond the epicentre) is hugely variable, depending on intensity, depth, soil/rock types and more.

But serious damage in the large quake in Chile in 1960 (9.5) stretched 1,000km+ ........... Washington D.C. is ~560km from Toronto on a straight-line basis.

Obviously you can "get through" anything. But 25% broad tariffs would have a pretty devastating impact on Ontario's economy that we'd have to "get through".
Hopefully this will serve as a reminder to Canadian industry and political leaders not to put all our trade eggs into one basket. Let's get going on a LNG plant and port so we have options other than the USA for our natural gas. With Russia out of the game, Europe needs it.

Of course you did the math... you really took the proverbial earthquake to heart.

But a 9.9 "Richter" event on the golden toilet... 🧐

It's going to be a long crazy four years for America 🤪

Donald Trump declares national energy emergency — 'Drill baby drill'

US President Donald Trump on Monday said that he will declare a national energy emergency aimed at boosting US oil and gas production.
During his inauguration speech, Trump said, "The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will 'Drill, baby, drill!'" Trump said.

What makes you think it will only be four years?

I would imagine he's referring to the legal end date for Trump's second term, with a constitutional prohibition on his seeking another.

That, of course, doesn't preclude a similarly loopy successor.
