Apparently Carney is planning a cabinet of under 20 positions. That's a marked reduction from Trudeau and all post-war PMs.

Does it really matter though?

If as expected he calls a snap election prior to the resumption of Parliament they won't actually have a chance to do anything.

I just hope he keeps Freeland out of cabinet, or at least away from anything to do with finance, trade or foreign affairs. We must present a new face to the USA and the world.

Give Freeland Defence if she demands a marquis role - just watch out for knives.

I’d rather give it back to Anand, if she is running again as reported - she had a proven record in that portfolio, and it is one that will take on increasing importance.

I think Freeland might be best as a special envoy to the EU.

My pick would be Anand for Finance too. She's probably the strongest actual bureaucrat in the caucus. And they need that in a critical role.

And they have no time to get MPs to test run cabinet positions - the situation calls for people with experience to hit the ground running.
What about keeping Joly in Foreign Affairs? She seems a lightweight to me.

I agree she'd be a good pick; but Champagne is getting that.
