Finally. The timeline on this project has been ridiculous, IIRC funding for it was announced in 2012. Can't wait for it to wrap up.
2026

There has been on going work on the QEW this past week.

All traffic will be using the service roads for the closure and expect at least up to an hour travel time around the closure, if not more.

It seems that Mississauga and miWay have very few talks with MTO about the interchange, but more so miWay. I saw problems for miWay at least 18 months ago and wonder how the Dixie Buses would get to the new service road that miWay was caught flat footed when MTO informed the, about opening the new South Service road that they had to make changes on the fly that has tick of the local residents.

The Dixie bus cannot not loop at Dixie Mall to be able to make that left turn from the new bus bays on Dixie that it now goes straight to the Lakeshore. Northbound buses entre into the mall at the same entrance they being using for decades using the old stop. A new route 31 replace service on Ogden running one way to Long Branch by going north on Ogden sitting at Dixie Mall and then to Long Branch that local are forced to take an earlier bus to catch their normal GO Train that was only a 6-10 rider compared to the 30-45 trip now, or be late and hope they can catch the next train. To run service in both directions, a northbound Dixie bus for 31 would have to travel through Dixie Mall to get to the service road and neither the city or miWay have spoken to the Mall owner on doing so far. Someone was sleeping on the job and par for the course when it comes to transit and quality of service system wide. The route is now under review now for everything.

Demo has begun on the old Dixie Rd QEW overpass with the QEW close at 8pm. Traffic was moving slow with a few accidents on Dixie Rd at intersections. QEW was using both service roads as well the Queensway and the Lakeshore to deal with the QEW closure. Maybe a different thing tomorrow in the day light.

Plan on shooting the bridge in the daylight as well nighttime, but got side track for the daytime, but already have those shots to a point.

Don't know when the finished building the missing section of the North Service Road for eastbound as it was open tonight. It was still close in January. Not sure if there are 2 lanes at Ogden now as it was still one lane in February. Something was going on in that area tonight, but too dark to see from the Dixie overpass.

Dirt was stock pile with 2 dump trucks trucking the dirt from the stock pile to the bridge to protect the QEW. All the centre barriers were being remove under both bridges.

Demo started on the north end with the earth removed at the south end.

The only thing I can think for new weekend closure is building the new centre barrier and adding 2 new lanes to deal with the ramps and the HOV future lane.

Demo started at 9pm with sand being laid down from in the hour prior. When I left at 1am, the deck was already down with 15-17 excavators were attacking it at one point. Once the machine with shears were done cutting, they swapped out attachments for buckets to move debris.

Great shots.

Dirt was been place on the QEW eastbound lanes at 8:45 by a front loader from the pile of dirt that was being dump by the 2 dump trucks with the centre barriers been remove. 2 jackhammers started on the north end at 8:45.

The QEW was reopen around noon Sunday, but it was a zoo for the detour to the point my 3 pm bus was 20 minutes late due to the backup on the Queensway and North Service Rd. Was planning on been there early this morning, but got side track and running late for the rest of the day. Even if I got there as plan, the only thing I would saw was the cleaning of the QEW to get open by noon or sooner. Was talking to a worker on the Hurontario Line that he was to report for work from 8-3 today, but a call before leaving home not to go to Dixie, but to Hurontario LRT.

The only thing I could see taking place at Ogden was a new drainage system last night and they were working on it going west today. Using large fiberglass tubes for the drainage system with even larger tubes up by the new off ramp staring at Haig Rd which is now open to traffic. South Service road still one lane at Ogden.

The north ramp for the Ogden overpass is fully rail not compared to my last visit this year, but not the south ramp. The temporary lighting has been removed from the bridge and see no new lights for it, but lights for the ramp are in place.

With the old bridge gone with a pile of rubble still need breaking up as well small section of the north pier still in place, you can see the west side of the new bridge now.. The overpass can handle 10 lanes.

No idea what is plan for next weekend closure.

Photos to follow.

Been asked off line if a barrier will be place at the open area for Applewood plaza and this is my response unless others have more detail info.

Off hand I say no as the plaza is the barrier now that is higher than the existing ones.

Have said that, it is possible there will be one there once the North Service Rd is fully shifted to to the north to allow for a 4th lane on the QEW as well the Dixie Rd on/off ramps that will be built this year and in 2026. The 4th lane will become a future HOV and a waste of of road use since 90% of drivers in that HOV lane are there illegally since there is no real enforcements in the first place.

Sound will travel long distance regardless of the barrier as the barrier is to deal with noise within 500 of it with the noise sweeping up over the barrier.

Other than this, don't know since I have never seen the plans for the new interchange and going by what I see first hand.

This plan was shared during one of the public presentations the project help during design, and gives a good understanding on the final interchange configuration.
Looks like a Parclo A2 configuration on the north and somewhat of a Parclo A4 on the south ramp terminal. These were likely constraint due to property. The new loop ramp to QEW westbound, as well as the new loop ramp and directional ramps on and off the eastbound QEW remain to be constructed, meaning that that excuse of an eastbound slip-on-ramp will finally be closed. Overall, a major operational improvement, not to mention safety.

The biggest operational improvement will be the extension of the 4th westbound through lane from Dixie to Cawthra - Cawthra is a very high volume interchange and the 4th lane dropping at Dixie has always been a huge bottleneck in the PM rush.

More up on my site

I see daily notices of slow traffic and construction on the QEW for both day and night as well on Dixie. I have noticed traffic backup going westbound at Hurontario and tonight I had a taste of the slow traffic going westbound from Hurontario St. Luckily if you were doing 40km with a number of stop and go until you got pass Cawthra with noting taking place other that traffic from Hurontario and Cawthra. Coming back an hour later, where was the traffic. Even when I shot the area hours early, it was slow going even at Dixie.

All the South Service Rd sound barrier has been removed from the east end and past the plaza with more coming down and taking a guess as far west up to Ogden New storm drain being in stall as well grading for the off/om ramps as well the 4th lane. I expect the North Service Rd will be done fall and 2026.

Nothing new for the Orden overpass area as well the walkway other that stakes in the ground for the new curbs for the new road replacing the old one. Curb machine on site.

Final grading taking place for the storm pond.

Am I correct in saying that there will only be 3 lanes on the eastbound QEW under the new bridge? I thought the plan was to have at least an 8 lane configuration for the QEW.

From what I have seen first hand and can be wrong, it will be 4 lanes plus a lane for the on ramp. There will be 4 lanes before the on ramp and 1 lanes for the off that will widen to 2 lanes to match the intersection at Dixie. The bridge itself can handle 10 lanes like the 401 ones going west in Mississauga.

Yes, eastbound will only be 3 upon completion, unfortunately.

It's designed to accomodate 4 whenever MTO widens the QEW through Mississauga, but this contract is 3 eastbound only.

4 lanes will be extended westbound to Cawthra.
