End "free parking" at shopping malls. Costs of that parking spaces are included in as cost of providing that real estate, including lighting, asphalt, snow removal, sweeping, painting, etc. which all customers pay for, even those who do not drive.

I know other people here were supportive, but it seems stupid to charge more for parking than the train, anyone NOT going to work (jays game, concert etc) went from having a free spot after work hours to having to pay. It's a double whammy seeing the former overflow parking lot sit empty as a construction site for the last few years

Is it actually metered 24/7? That seems excessive. I would expect at least an exception for weekends would be there.

I know the city aren't the ones who closed the lot but it's such a Toronto move to tell people to take transit, then make it harder (close lots) and then charge after making it worse

I think these are the streets affected.

I support the metering of parking here. If you arrive by transit, you pay a fare, if you use Bikeshare, there's a fee for that.

The parking (on street) belongs to the City, and there's no reason people should expect it to be free.

The irritation of the person involved is the result of the GO parking itself having been free.......when it should also be paid.

But that's an Mx issue.

$5.50 for an entire day of parking is quite cheap, a lot less than you'll pay downtown, and less than 2 TTC fares. Deal!

Mimico to Union (or better still, to Exhibition) is such a fast trip that it is hard to feel much sympathy for people paying to park there. The 76 bus is pretty frequent and I am always surprised at how few people make that transfer. The kiss and ride traffic at Mimico borders on gridlock.
The problem at Mimico is that the failure of the development proposed has left seemingly available fields that people assume ought to be dedicated to parking. In fact, there would be high rise towers on those lots had things gone a little differently.
The paid parking legitimises a large amount of on street parking that previously was at the peril of the 3-hour limitation. I suspect there have been many complaints from local residents, many 3-hour violations have been ticketed - to the point where 5 bucks a day may deliver leas revenue to the city than the ticket income.

The 76 bus is only useful if you live along royal york, For anyone east and west you'd have 3 vehicles on your trip plus whatever you need to do once you get to union! My hope was that the new developments would have public parking built in!

A 15 min ride to union is only 1 part of the trip, for me I'd have to take the 507 all the way to long branch (going away from downtown) whenever it feels like showing up, then transfer to 76, then walk to Mimco, making a well timed less than 25 min trip take over an hour some days!

I'll hold my tongue until we have more firm news, but everyone here knows how much of an incompetent, useless, and inept idiot Rick Leary is. If Metrolinx is intent on completely screwing up their organization and train/bus operations then we know they're completely clueless.

What I will say is that, this rumour also came about shortly after Leary resigned from the TTC.

So hopefully where there's smoke, there's no fire in this case.
