What's worse, this exact section of King Street is subject to an upcoming redevelopment that is "less temporary". Because this watermain and track work rebuild are their own thing, there is zero coordination with the upcoming installation of these less temporary public realm features, slated to be completed in 2025. In other words: this sidewalk is going to get torn up soon after the work is completed. What the actual F*.

I have asked Chris Moise's office what is planned, if/when I hear I will report.

If the TTC were to ever upgrade the streetcar switches to dual-point switches would the geometry of the tracks need to change and would a rebuild like this one have been the perfect time to do it?
The geometry of the switches themselves would likely change slightly, but the various curves and straight bits of track connecting them wouldn't.

Of course, replacing just the switch points and not the rest of the trackwork attached to them would defeat the purpose, as the whole thing wears out together at the same rate.

Dear gods, I hadn't realized they'd need to actually replace trackwork!

No need really. They've already paved a road that will be promptly covered with a temporary sidewalk where a sidewalk is meant to be, instead of building the sidewalk in the first place. This city is a joke.
They speak of a 'temporary build-out' in the info you posted so I assumed it was going to go on top of the asphalt and was NOT a rebuild of the curb or a regrading of the road but ... From their announcement I assumed they would be building better, more consistent and 'nicer' platforms but I guess we just need to wait and see. What I fear is they will do nothing new and just put back new stick-on tactile plates that are trip hazards but .....

King and Church intersection is still closed as they paint the lines at the intersection. I guess they are going with the yellow stripes again and not the solid red lane, or maybe that comes later?

I also find it funny how they skipped over the parts with the tracks leaving gaps in the linework. I can see OCD being triggered.

Fun fact, this is done intentionally. It keeps the streetcar from losing its ground.

The overhead wire is the positive. One rail acts as the negative. And the other acts as a ground. Thus completing the circuit and allowing the streetcar to move under power.

If the streetcar were to "lose its ground" by having the steel wheel on steel rail contact broken by the paint, people could potentially become the ground instead if they are touching the car and the ground at the same time. The results are shocking.

While this is true (and more than just paint will cause a car to lose ground, for the record)....

It would take just two or three cars to wear the paint off of the rail head. Coupled with the fact that the distance between trucks is greater than the width of the sidewalk and so only one truck at any time would be on the painted rail means that the loss-of-ground concern is simply a non-factor.
