^That part of Jasper currently has no funding. It hasn't been put in the CRL yet. That could change but up to 2034 it's not in there. The CRL is being extended to 2044 but we gotta get that section done sooner than that.

The construction has extended west to 121 St.

Going to be painful for a yr or 2 but sorely needed!

I've noticed an increase of traffic on 102Ave through Wihkwentowin when I've been walking or biking this past week.

It also made me think the drivers who are using 102Ave are probably recognizing the volume of people who bike, since if you're usually driving on Jasper or 104 Avenues you won't see since there is no infrastructure there.

The city received about $8.8 million in active transportation funding to improve the walkability of Jasper Ave for the current project going on between 114-124st. That was from the first ever $400million federal active transportation fund.

The federal government decided to keep this program going with another $500million starting in 2026. The city put in its request for this - I wonder if if was for this Jasper Ave work between 102-109st?

@IanO had shared some high level concepts for the 106 Street (99 Avenue to 104 Avenue) and 107 Street (99 Avenue to Jasper Avenue) streetscapes.

At this time, no funding has been approved to advance the design of this plan. However as part of Warehouse (O'Day-min) Park, 106st will be renewed from Jasper Ave to 102 Ave.

Also of note, the two-block section of 107 Street between 99 Avenue and Jasper Avenue has been included in the scope of work for the design of the Jasper Avenue New Vision Phase 3 streetscape (102 Street to 109 Street).

This design project is just beginning. However, the timelines for construction of the Jasper Avenue and 107 Street streetscapes are undefined as funding for construction has not been approved.

As I mentioned in the post above, I would not be surprised if the city submitted this Jasper Ave project to the federal government for funding from its $500 million active transportation fund as it did for the west project currently in progress.

Not the strongest speaker and explanations. City seems to really struggle with PR sometimes. I’m continually amazed at public feedback sessions how poorly the city staff will explain things. Such a good chance to more persuasively educate people on why the city is doing things.

Like for this video, a key talking point should be: “look, we know the disruptions now are tough. No on likes sitting in traffic. But if we don’t get the LRT built, traffic will be this bad anyways in a few years, except we won’t have a significantly more efficient way to move tens of thousands of people in the same amount of roadway. So this is annoying, but it will buy us decades of better traffic flow vs if we don’t get a train built from the west end to downtown.”

The City struggles with PR because they think it's about PR when it's not. It's about branding and branding is about what you do and how you do it - what you are - not what you say you are or what you try and promote.

That's as true for cities - as a whole and for individual departments within it - as it is for individuals and for businesses.
