St Hubert (Renamed Montreal Metropolitan) opens this fall, so not too much longer.

In terms of flight options, Porter plans to offer a large variety of domestic routes from it, but none internationally. We’ll see if that sticks for Hamilton. I hope they plan at least a handful of US routes.

There's not enough CBSA staff at YHU to do international, but I'm sure that will come eventually.

Build out a lux terminal at yhm and run a shuttle to ytz with the Q to capture the downtown traffic. You could do it with a 15 min cnx at YHM airside and probably run 4 banks a day out of YHM. That would take away the long drive on the qew and 403 and the economics of the Q400 could probably make it work. Crazier things have happened in this industry!

^ I'd think Porter would leave YTZ now if they could, since they already threatened to do so.
And unlike YHM and YTZ, YYZ allows for connections to a lot of other airlines.
https://www.flyporter.com/en-ca/about-porter/our-airline-partners

Their advertising and website for the last couple of years has been all about flying to their newer destinations reached with the Embraer E195-E2 jets, and barely mentions the Q400 or island airport anymore.

Short term they aren't going to leave YYZ, nor YUL. But with Air Canada and Star Alliance holding control over Terminal 1, and everyone else having to share gatespace at Terminal 3, plus Air Canada's domination of YUL it's why they are trying to build up alternates like YHU and YHM. Eventually they could shift the bulk of operations there if they can get other non aligned airlines to play along.

YTZ probably makes less sense for Porter now, I could see them eventually leaving since their original plan of flying jets out of it failed, and with the decline in buisness travel plus UP Express the proximity to downtown isn't as important as it used to be.

Yup. YTZ's travel time to Union is barely different than YYZ at this point.

YTZ's whole remaining selling point is.. not having to deal with YYZ. Small airports have appeals for many people and often offer superior experiences. Is that worth the heavy amount of operational limitations placed on Porter? Maybe, maybe not.

I'd choose YTZ over YYZ 10/10 times when flying to the destinations it services because of this reason alone. Being able to go from the entrance to your gate in 5-10 mins is such a beautiful thing and not having to deal with major flights from major destinations flooding the airport with people at the same time you arrive is wonderful as well.

Selfishly I'd be sad to see it go but ultimately I don't use it enough to really be upset about it and I understand the value that land could have. I just love the stress free experience it offers.

From YHM on X shows with helmets, goggles, and sledgehammers. This is going to be exciting for new airline and ready to broke ground on the new terminal expansion soon.

This has little chance of long term success.

agreed, all it takes for AC is to drop their fares by $50 and it'd still be worth it to fly from YYZ than schlepping to YHM.

The idea should be to try to capture as much of the Western GTAH market as they can. It's unlikely that passengers coming from East of YYZ are going to choose YHM unless the price is much lower. Oakville, Burlington, Kitchener, Hamilton, etc would have an easier commute to YHM compared to YYZ.

YVR/YYC/YEG/YHZ are good initial choices for service. As mentioned above I'd hope for service to large us markets as well (like NYC, CHI, ATL, LA, MIA, WAS). I'm cautiously optimistic about this. After all WestJet started out at YHM initially and moved to YYZ as quickly as they could. YOW and YUL are notable absences though Porter provides ample service from YTZ/YYZ and I'm not sure how much demand there is for YHM-YOW/YUL service.

***EDIT***

Looks like Porter is scheduled to begin receiving 25 more E2 aircraft in 2025. So they may be waiting for more airframes to come in before adding additional flights. Also according to Plane Spotters they do have 4 E2's currently parked at YOW that can be deployed at YHM.

I'd rather pay $50 extra to not have to suffer YYZ and fly out of the island.

I don't think their plan would be to attract customers from downtown Toronto or the eastern GTA. There's a significant number of people for which Hamilton is closer - without even getting into the traffic.
