A Member Motion at next week's Council meeting will see to enhance the budget of this project by just over 700k from S. 37 funding.

The intent is pay for safety and other enhancements next to the Glen Road entrance to Sherbourne Station:

That entrance was where a foreign student on his way to school was fatally stabbed (or was it shot) by a stranger some 2 1/2 years ago (completely random). No doubt that incident prompted the safety enhancement.

Looked it up, as I didn't recall the details either, it was Shot.

Took place at 5pm in the month of April, sunset at that time of year is ~7:50pm. So I don't imagine extra lighting would play much of a role in prevention. Perhaps the cameras would have made a difference.... I'm all for improving the space, but I do think we sometimes oversell the value of certain measures.

Yes, now I remember. On the way to work, not school. Agreed that no extra lighting could’ve prevented that, but I suppose it would give a sense of security to people using that entrance.

The City's contractor here is taking a holiday break!....they're off from tomorrow to January 7th.

(swell deal if you can get it)

I'm not suggesting they work Christmas, LOL....... but they're getting something like 13 weekdays, and 19 calendar days off.

****

Project has now had the finishing date pushed out to 'Spring '25' At the rate things have gone here.........I would suggest June, rather than March......

It will be only ~17-20 months late...........

Originally scheduled for completion, October 31st, 2023.

I'd be very surprised if many of their workers get paid for this "vacation". Though management surely does.

Bridge looks complete. Tunnel may still need some work?

Couldn't get close on the other side w/o going all the way around, as crews still have Bloor blocked off there, so I assume work is ongoing.

@DavidCapizzano should know for sure.

But the 2 structures are independent, so they can open the bridge to the public while still working on the tunnel.

Probably, but don't hold your breath.

Progress on the Glen Road walkway, but still no access. I asked the workers, and they said 'a couple more weeks'...

I don't remember the completion date that was originally posted on the construction signs, but I would bet anything that it's at least 6 months late and probably at least 20% overbudget. And I would bet a gazillion dollars that NO ONE's head is going to roll over this.

It is 17-18 months late and got more funding. See above and https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2024/mm/bgrd/backgroundfile-249999.pdf
It's good they got more funding, but one would think that those measures would have been included and funded from the beginning, given that it connects one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in Toronto (Rosedale) to one of the poorest (St Jamestown). Not to mention that a few years ago someone was shot and killed by a random stranger at the Glen Rd entrance to Sherbourne Station, steps from the Glen Rd end of the tunnel.
