I thought Trudeau opened up some transit infrastructure pool for agency's to draw from, why doesn't the TTC use that
It's a city project.

The issue is that it isn't the Feds pay 100%. The city would have to cough up 1/3. Actually probably 2/3rds as the deal was Ontario would do 100% (with feds) of the current IO/Metrolinx projects, and the city would instead do the Yonge-Bloor station, Line 7, etc.

"This week, the City of Toronto reached a major milestone for the Eglinton East LRT project, completing the transit and rail project assessment process.

Once built, the Eglinton East LRT will include 27 stops, providing better transit access for over 71,000 people, particularly in areas currently underserved by rapid transit.

The line will run from Kennedy Station to key destinations like Malvern Town Centre and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus, while also connecting to other major transit lines such as the GO Train, the future Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown, and Line 2 Subway.

This new transit line will offer smoother rides, reduce crowding, and lower emissions, improving connectivity and making it easier for residents to get around."

They won't be able to connect it directly to the current line 5 though.....

A part of me would have hoped they switched over to grade separated light metro technology 😥
That will never happen with an on street LRT.

Since it will be called line 7, they should renumber the Eglinton East Express bus to 907.

The Big News is that the City is still wasting money on this incredibly bad plan.

Losses should be cut, the project binned and we move on.

Scarborough and UTSC need better, faster transit........this project is not that.

Kingston Road needs a facelift.....and better transit.......... this is the most expensive way to get that.

Is it just me or is this route really convoluted? It's also weird to me because it goes east, then northeast, and then turns back west. Which, just strikes me as strange for a transit line. but I guess line 1 kinda does the same so maybe it's normal lol

Both ends of the LRT feed Line 2 stations, existing Kennedy Station and future McCown/Sheppard Station.

I don't understand the obsession with elevating this particular line, RMTransit really has convinced everyone that elevated transit is the only way to go, when there are fast suburban trams that would meet this level of demand elsewhere in the world. The bigger issue is that the Durham-Scarborough BRT + Line 2 Extension are going to get most people to UTSC faster than the EELRT could.

But I do agree that the U shape is constraining for future extensions of this service and Line 4, ideally it would look more like this..

I don't think there's much obsession really. It quite obviously would not be built as a grade-seperated line. Which isn't to say there aren't other options to get a line UTSC - but not to serve Eglinton, Kingston Road, and Sheppard East.

There's always going to be a few foamers who have no perspective on costs and ridership. I don't see much of that in this forum though.

It's no different than the other surface LRT lines, why no objections to those lines?

If it's because the express buses appear faster on paper, they don't have the capacity needed,

UTSC students will be better off going to the subway at STC anyway, they don't need a rocket trip to Kennedy.

Which other lines are you talking about........... what an amorphous statement that is incredibly difficult to provide a meaningful response to.

Its because there are far better improvements possible for the same money. As I've explained, at some length, on previous occasions.

UTSC students will be better off going to the subway at STC anyway, they don't need a rocket trip to Kennedy.

So now you're arguing against the LRT............ LOL
