4 Nations Break Thoughts:
Now that there's a bit of a gap between Oilers games I thought I'd share some thoughts on a few things.
Imminent Jeff Skinner resurgence?:
After being in the dog house despite playing well, Skinner has recently gotten actual quality minutes in the top 6 and done extremely well. He's clearly worked on his defensive game, and its showing on the ice. I'm excited to see what he can do given more opportunity
John Klingberg:
Klingberg was brought in to try to fill a spot on right handed defence. He's shown flashes of being pretty good, but also had some tough moments as well. I'm not sure what to make of him thus far. He's an upgrade on Stetcher at the very least. I think as he gets more games under his belt he'll round a bit more into form.
Goaltending troubles again:
The goaltending was terrible at the start of the season and had sort of figured itself out for a while. I'm now not sure, Skinner has had a few bad games in a row. Pickard has been alright in support, but I'm a little concerned. Rumours they're after John Gibson are swirling, that could be the move to put this Oilers team over the top.
Deadline approaching:
With the trade deadline approaching, the Oilers are certain to make a push for somebody. I've said a few times on this forum that I think the Oilers need to add a finishing winger above all else. I think this need is maybe not as big anymore, especially if Skinner continues to play in the top 6 and be effective. It would still be nice though. A top4 right handed defenseman is probably another nice but not necessary addition. If the Gibson rumors are true, the Oilers should move heaven and earth to get him. He would be my target.
