I wonder if Blatchford Station will open once the Yellowhead construction is done. I'm guessing that a transit centre which includes buses to Spruce Grove and St. Albert would be a plus.
Good ideas. And a bus connection to our rail station?
 
A 137 Ave BRT from WEM to Clairview connecting to the Metro Line at 97th Street would drive a lot of LRT ridership. It would just kill Northgate as the primary transfer terminus, shifting it to Greisbach or Castle Downs.

Edmonton really should consider creating reliable BRT circulator routes that feed the LRT. I would be in favour of some routes feeding Westwood in the interim.
 
That's actually wild. Did they state reasons why? I know that areas has a decent amount of schools and immigrant communities to drive up ridership.
Bugger, I was off. He clarified that this is for when the line goes out to Naki, and captures local + commuter riders. I did some digging, and page 20 of this corridor selection report says the corridor between Naki and NAIT will have 42,000 - 45,000 riders per year in 2041.

With that being said, the report also states that the route does a good job of serving existing neighbourhoods and has strong potential for promoting higher densities/populations in the future - sort of like what we're seeing with the Valley Line. Between that higher density coming down the pipeline, its adjacency to existing neighbourhoods including Greisbach, and the feeder buses getting people to the LRT from other parts of the Northwest, I still think that this line would be worthwhile even without the connection to Naki. Perhaps StAT could run a shuttle between Naki and Castle Downs?
 
If 113 A Street is too difficult a route to build the Metro LRT, I wonder if 127 Street might be the second choice.
I've thought about it a lot too but I see 113 Street as really being the ideal route. It sort of splits the difference with the Capital Line well. If you go 127 Street then you've only really got one residential neighbourhood to the west the length of the line. You also miss out on tying into Griesbach and the Castledowns area which I think will be drivers of ridership.
 
I think the major question will be whether the bridge across the Calder/Walker yards will go ahead in the future. Will CN have any problem with the construction?

St. Albert Trail would be NE Capital Line 2.0 and not really benefit Edmontonians, although when it comes time to extend Caste Downs to Naki, St. Albert Trail could be an alternative.

113 A St is the best of the planned options, but I'm still on team 97 St even though it'll add up to 3km to the line. They would cross over 11 tracks instead of I'm not going to count how many in the storage yard, there's even more potential for redevelopment with the added benefit of less NIMBY pushback. We would also capture Northgate and the TOD like SE corner of Griesbach. Downside is 3 extra km of track which adds travel time. The only oh darn part is that we miss Eaux Claire by 500m. You're going to get people west of 97 St to swtich over to the new Castle Downs park and ride but those east are probably going to prefer sticking with their one seat express bus.
 
Out of curiousity, I measured some distances. We currently have 4.7km built from Churchill to Blatchford gate, and we have 4.4km to go to get to Castledowns. We're a bit more than half way there, unless we go up 97 St instead like a lot of us want then it's 7.1 km.

Unfortunately, half way is no way there without funding or an agreement with CN.

Accidental in the sense it's old news.
The Metro Line mention was probably just not updated to reflect that the line is in service now. A quick check shows the Province put in $1 billion for WLRT, $437 million for SLRT, and $131 million for Metro Line to Blatchford, so $1.6 billion checks out.

In the ICIP reports the GOA sends to the feds, it's still marked as under construction. It's probably just awaiting some finals sign offs or something bureaucratic.
