I still think it looks like trash. I’m not saying it won’t be good for DT with the influx of residents and vibrancy it will bring, it just sets a really bad precedent, because if they build this monstrosity in urban core, the race to the bottom will continue with other developers seeing what they can get away with later on in future projects.

Well, I am just a commentator that follows a lot of threads on construction throughout the city and that's about it. If I had skin in the game so to speak I would definitely advocate for much better and much more interesting architecture to be built. Sure I might not like some stuff and I'll express it here but when it comes down to it I'm definitely not one of the people paying the bills to get things built or renovated so I could demand all kinds of stuff but if I'm not directly involved in the project then all I can do is say yay or nay and that's about it. Should the project be looking better than it is proposed, probably, but all we can do is hope that things turn out better than what is expected in this situation.

If we could only be so lucky if more “monstrosities” were built in the Quarters……

The precedent was already set years ago with Monaco 2, the Legacy, everything in railtown, etc. If anything, I think this is a leg up on those in terms of materials. This won't be the building that sets the standard for "cheap crap" in Edmonton. That precedent has existed for decades.

Here is some photo evidence. The final product may not end up being gorgeous, but It can't be ignored this has been a massive eyesore forever.

Bigger windows would not only provide a major assist to the architecture but it would be welcomed -- I'm sure -- by student inhabitants, making them feel more connected to the surrounding community

If I recall, certain changes to code regarding insulation requirements around 2018ish caused some significant changes to proposed developments at the time. CNIB building being one that comes to mind that was originally curtain wall.

Could it be that code is limiting these designs? These types of seem to have been popping up more and more often lately. Tall and narrow windows which limit heat loss but also make for less inviting interiors and awful designs.
