With airlines having to cut back on US routes across Canada because fewer people are going there with political situation, it does surprise me somewhat to see US routes added.

Great to see increased presence of Porter, however.

It isn't unreasonable to think that could be a possibility. YEG is much more available for market loyalty than YYC is. YVR is big but can be out of the way for many connections. I have some concerns with Porter's viability but who knows. I would expect Westjet to do some defending of it's turf.
I think that's absolutely a possibility. Let's remember that Ottawa is a hub for them, so there's already a precident for this strategy.

Great to see somebody else add some sun routes out of YEG. Here’s hoping that people actually use them, so that PD sees there’s potential for more direct routes out of Edmonton.
I plugged in some dates for PVR on the nonstop dates (3 weekly) in November and pricing is an ouch!!

Nice add for YEG. Allows me to move further away from WS. Flew Porter this week and was reflecting on their limited routes from YEG with some dismay. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Porter's new direct flights to Montreal starting in June are to that city's new airport in Saint-Hubert - it will have capacity of 4 million passengers and is primarily hosted by Porter.

I have flown Porter several times now and I agree the main problem is the limited number of flights. Their service is fairly good, reminds me of another upstart airline before they got too big and corporate.

Yes, it seems we just get Westjets attention is when someone else adds service here. Its a classic monopolist behaviour to only respond when competition arrives.

Just to put it on the table so there is no more dispute ever again about YYC’s numbers and how they relate to YEG’s……

YYC’s total traffic included 34.4% connecting traffic numbers in 2024. So, 18.9M X 34.4% =12.34 M Without YEG’er and other prairie cities filling up their planes…..so they're only 4M more than YEG….not10M as others might like to think……mic drop!
Hi MacLac, don't let your hatred of Calgary get in the way of the big picture. ;)

a) Most of the world's busiest airports are driven by connecting passenger traffic. YYC being a hub is no exception. Having that large volume of connecting traffic is an advantage when it comes to tourism, and an even bigger advantage when it comes to business.
b) 12 million non-connecting passengers at YYC compared to say 7 million at YEG (assuming around 12% are connecting passengers) is a huge difference for two cities of similar size. Those numbers help support point a)
c) The average Calgarian or average business doesn't care how passengers at YYC are connecting or local. They only care about what's available to them.
Destinations YYC-115, YEG-54
Transborder destinations YYC-22, YEG-15
Destinations outside of North America YYC-14, YEG-1 <-this is a difference maker. 11 of those 14 destinations are busy global hubs. It puts Calgary on the map globally for business and tourism.
d) It's not only the number of destinations, it's also the frequency. I won't get into it, but YYC has far more options to cities that YEG also flies to.

I wonder what opportunities the collapse of spirit will offer for airlines like flair. There will be a lot of metal avl.
