^ First create the demand for residential. People will be more amenable to locating there if there are active reasons for doing so. Plus the funding for this is coming/has come together; why risk that falling apart? Not only that but the go-ahead portions likely already include two towers totaling 68+ storeys of residential; an overbuild would not serve anyone, downtown or otherwise.

Funny seeing Sohi and Smith standing so close together, in our Downtown no less. I know wouldn’t be able to hold my tongue if I was him lol

This is good for everyone involved. Needed for the neighbourhood, essentially for vibrancy, it also helps with ending the embarrassment of poor urban environments in Alberta's two major cities.

No reason for them to be at each other's throats at this moment.

Sohi knows how to play the game.
I suppose every politician does or thinks they do, but in this case I'm not sure. It helps Smith seem more even handed.

Also, I have a feeling she may be looking ahead to having a city council and mayor that is more friendly to her, when the shovels actually go into the ground.

Its pretty valid to be skeptical of more tax money going to Katz. Sure we have a fancy new arena downtown but I know it personally rubs me the wrong way when we payed for a lot of that building only to get charged $30 for a beer and bag of popcorn. I hope there are stipulations in the funding about Katz needing to develop the lots that the province is paying for site servicing and we aren't just paying to increase the value of the properties and have Katz sit on them and sell in 10 years for a massive profit.

Remember when the downtown arena was going to be the catalyst for development lol... "oh actually could I have 68 million more, then I'll develop."

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the arena is downtown but it's funny that Katz got millions more in tax payer money for catalyst 2.0 while running the 2nd most profitable NHL Franchise
