Stopped by the block party at Blatchford today. A couple of things:

- EcoDen is planning to break ground on their mixed-use in the next 2-3 weeks!

- Crimson Cove is planning to start their first multi-unit building in September or October (next to the roundabout)

- There were renderings of the City’s plan for the base of the control tower.

Overall, lots of activity and interest. Great to see.

This is one of the things that does bother me about the neighbourhood, and which seems a mismatch for the density. The whole pneumatic tube trash collection thing was definitely a bridge too far, but the usual trash collection method is extremely suburbia oriented, and the density is enough that our alleys are absolutely packed with bins, especially where many houses are actually three different units with their own pair of bins each, plus recycling bags to put out on trash days.

Something like this solution used in Amsterdam would be rather apt when this is the lowest density in the neighbourhood.

Getting two 4-6 storey buildings starting this year will be huge. Love it.

In Europe it’s common to have a neighbourhood collection point. Where I live it’s general waste, plastic/metal, glass, and cardboard underground bins every block or two. But it’s probably too much to ask for an albertan to have to walk to do anything.

If shared collection points existed here, people are shoving mattresses inside within the week.

Western waste management has not evolved since the 1950s.

Sorry, Not the greatest photos... Didn’t have time to cycle so just did a drive by to see the progress. Everything looks amazing except the development closest to superstore. What a piece of suburban trash that is.IMG_0039.jpegIMG_0040.jpegIMG_0042.jpegIMG_0043.jpegIMG_0044.jpegIMG_0047.jpeg

There’s actually large furniture or mattresses being left at the collection points quite often, but either someone from the neighbourhood takes it or the city has more available resources to pick up these large items because they are not doing door to door collection. Anything large is usually gone within a day

Sorry, which one of these is the one closest to the Superstore?

That'd be Streetside, which is easily the most lacklustre build here.. Mutti might've struggled with the concept of a house and gotten kicked off the project for their many defects, but at least their work generally looks sharp. Carbon Busters might be struggling to complete anything, but at least there's some visual interest there.

If I leave my trash can in the alley, someone will stuff it with mountains of weird trash and/or dump large items beside it.

I'm sorry (but not sorry), but that has to be one of the most ass buildings I've even seen built? Is that a temporary prison for Fort MacMurray?

That is indeed the backside of those condos/townhomes and they look pretty good on the front side.

Soon you won't see the backside because one more block is going up and from that same vantage point you will see the front of those new homes.

Are they moving those electrical boxes? It doesn't look like enough space for another set of rowhouses.

Foundations are already poured. You can see the steps on concrete In the bottom right of the pic.

If you look at the drone videos, you can see the layout of the last row of townhouses. I’m assuming they’ll come back to them once sales move of the others.
