I'm not that far in, so I'm not sure if he mentions it, but David Roberts spent a year in Edmonton working on a graduate degree in philosophy.Podcast on Blatchford on the relatively high profile Volts podcast: https://www.volts.wtf/p/canadas-largest-sustainable-community?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Probably the most noteworthy thing out of this podcast for local Blatchford watchers is that Tom Lumsden says the first 4-6 storey will break ground in the next month. A second multi-unit property is now listed. The Blatchford page on the city's website was recently updated with some interesting info about why certain decisions were made (ie dropping the pneumatic waste system).
There's also a listing for one of the multi-unit properties. Inside, there are links to Blatchford's Green Building Codes, the Blatchford West Architectural and Urban Design Guidelines, and the Multi-Unit Lots District Energy Sharing System Design Guide. I have never seen these three documents posted publicly, so this is quite exciting. The high price for the listing surprised me, but it makes sense since the proceeds from these sales fund the next stages of development.
It's an intriguing idea, but I'm not sure what they can be repurposed for. They're literally just sheet metal over a very large frame.Hopefully they are being repurposed and not demolished.
There were also a couple fires in them last year, sometime around when the other hangar burned down. I don’t think they will be saved. It's an intriguing idea, but I'm not sure what they can be repurposed for. They're literally just sheet metal over a very large frame.
