My wife has bad memories of the Bloor night bus from her younger days.
I don't think the horror stories were from 5 AM! The drunks are normally long gone by then! I've certainly never seen anything weird at that hour - just before the subway opens.

Speaking of subway opening times - is the relatively late opening of the subway due to the limited maintenance window, or ridership reasons?

When is this happening?
Weekdays - some of the surface routes get a real early start, like the first WB 505 being at 420am, while the first WB 2 is at 540am, meaning that realistically full service won't be ramped up until sometime in the 6 am hour.

From Dundas West station, the 505 runs all night - it's the 305 streetcar at night - every 20 minutes or so. The first 505 might be at 4:20 am, but the last 305 is at 3:46 AM! Odd though I can't find the streetcars between 4 AM and 5 AM on the website ... probably an database error.

Subways have never started much before 6 AM. Nothing new here. That gives them less than 4 hours for overnight work. Probably closer to 2 hours in some spots, with all the time to return trains to the yard, and vice-versa.

Probably more dependable to take the 300 Bloor-Danforth bus - which runs directly to the airport at 5 AM. The bus moves like greased lightening at that time in the morning.
Took the 300 from Pearson back to the city the day after that delta plane flipped on the tarmac. Super fast. But it only picked up passengers from T3. Not sure if it stops at T1 on the airport bound bus either.

It stops at T1 first, followed by T3, then it travels outside of the airport southbound towards Bloor.

Just a friendly reminder that when this connection was first proposed, this was a big hit:

I'll one up you with this hit from 1910.
Around the time the Queen Subway/DRL/Ontario Line was first proposed:

... I would be pleasantly surprised if they are able to finish the tunnel to Dundas West station by the EOY.
I would guess that's quite improbable. Other than the wooden barriers that were put up at that end of the subway platforms more than a year ago,

I have yet to see or hear of anything to indicate making the actual tunnel between there and the GO/UPX station has started.
And while I am no expert on this type of thing, it would seem reasonable to assume making this tunnel under or through the basement levels of the already existing apartment building would likely have to be done very carefully and slowly.

Not sure a cafe could go in there. My understanding is that this building has dedicated space for non-profit / charitable organizations. Was originally the Dovercourt Boys & Girls Club (Junction Triangle Clubhouse) and now the Red Cross.
Maybe a non-profit brewery run by monks would work though. Let's go with that!

Fortunately, most of the connection between Bloor GO and the Dundas West platforms re-purposes the existing underground parking garage as the transfer concourse. The only "delicate" construction seems to be the elevator shafts that are right next to the live subway tunnels.
