What do we think COE will do with hybrid? Will they feel pressure to call people back to the office? If so, how does that jive with their desire to sell chancery and century place, as surely not everyone could fit in Edmonton tower
The CoE can't do anything (yet) with hybrid in-scope employees, as it's part of their collective agreement. I seriously doubt the members would forego that benefit in their next negotiation as well, but time will tell.
Not sure how many out-of-scope employees they have and what that would look like for RTO.

I was out with friends last night, one of whom is a tech manager for a team with a GoA ministry that is fully remote and not part of the RTO announcement yesterday.
Received almost 40 calls, texts, and emails from colleagues at other ministries afterward asking about any openings available within the team/other teams within the ministry, and to reach out if/when they're hiring.

So he/she knows a lot of IT folks that are without employment? If so, tell them to apply down south in the "FinTech" Capital of the World - "with the world's largest % increase in FinTech jobs since the beginning of time!?

Oh wait, unless he wants to work for the Chinese government at their state run spy on-line bank of "Neo Financial" working the bowels of the YYC DT Bay Building in sweat shop conditions OR maybe work for Infosys - the Indian Call Center Behemoth that came to YYC cause of the high Indian unemployment rate and dirt cheap DT office space. Either one is considered "FinTech" and will look great on his/her resume.

Heard that is 'a letter of understanding', not part of the CBA.

Would they need both buildings to accommodate employees? My understanding is one is in better shape than the other.

Or they could still sell both and rent other space nearby, it is not like there is a shortage of space available downtown. I feel there are a number of options here.

It turns out that urbanism isn't just making everyone go to a particular part of the city for a particular part of the day.
lol. you obviously didn't read or choose to understand my post. I wrote to work and LIVE.

If there's no reason for 'everyone go to a particular part of the city for a particular part of the day', as you put it, then there's no reason to live anywhere near the dt. Working from home in the suburbs, or from a nice acreage subdivision, in a big single family home is great!

I take back what I wrote.

You know what? Since 'urbanism isn't just making everyone go to a particular part of the city for a particular part of the day', then most post-secondary schooling should be from home. That way there's no need for student housing in the core. Wonderful idea!! Think of how much more desolate the downtown will become.

Also, all LRT expansion should be cancelled, as well since 'urbanism isn't just making everyone go to a particular part of the city for a particular part of the day', because what's the point of MASS transit to the core, when the masses aren't showing up (because they're working from their comfortable suburban homes) to justify the costs. Busses will do.

SMH. You can't have it both ways. It doesn't work like that.

This is a pretty damning assumption. Do you know if something bad is coming?
I'm not sure it's an assumption. The letter of understanding is available in the collective agreement that can be downloaded from the union's (CSU52 anyway) website if you wanted to interpret the wording yourself, but basically the City can direct employees back with 30 days notice at their discretion.

Yes, this. For clarity, I don’t know anything beyond this.
