They are definitely shifting to a model of more presence. Finally saw some today at the corner of 101 street and 102 ave. I think there were a number of factors, the Mcfee war with council, staffing shortages due to high turnover and low recruitment and from what I was told directly a need to shift the mindset of some of the newer police to break the culture of riding around in cars to getting out and proactively engaging on the street.
100% this.

I recall sitting in the Mayor's (Iveson) office with Chief McFee and other service providers and literally begging them to get ahead of this in 2019 and it fell on deaf ears.

Great to see things moving in the right direction.

Why not simply add a filter to the catch basins/drains, add 6" of topsoil and put in sod level with the bottom stair along with some decent planters...

Yes, it would be an annual expense but probably less than what Enbridge spends on their planter beds and probably less than what they spend on their winter ice.

And on a semi-related matter, isn't a large part of that expanse still municipal roadway leased to Ice District and wouldn't that come with some performance criteria that the city could enforce?

Honestly, why are we giving these guys another dime for a "fan park" when they can't even activate their main congregation area in the heart of Ice District? A dozen stools picked up at Jysk... good grief. This is just pathetic.

Does anyone know why they don't use the big screens for something more than just advertising. Other than the playoff games, regular season games are never shown on screens.

When Canada is playing an international soccer game, or even games from 2022 and upcoming 2026 World Cup, games should be on. Could be a variety of different sporting events like Summer/Winter Olympics. That might bring more people to those Jysk stools and maybe even the existing outdoor patios.

What was the purpose of those screens?
