It's been around for 15 or so years now; basically a terraced switchback trail or stair combo from 98th-99th south of the old school.
This has been on my wishlist for a while now. That old, rickety, wooden staircase that's there right now has served the neighborhood well, but it's time for an upgrade. It needs to be wider, better lit, concrete or stone construction, with landings at the top, mid point and bottom that are large enough for benches.

I really, really don't get this kind of stuff in Edmonton. You've got a really cool new expanded patio, how about you open it up onto the street, inviting, urban? It's SO counterintuitive and looks stupid to be honest. You could drive far more interest and revenue from letting people see it from 105st... put some planters along it, encourage folks to stop in.

100%. I’m assuming laziness to open/close every day is the reasoning as they don’t want it open overnight.

Drop them a DM on socials or an email. Let them know people care

We were on track for it until the mid 2010s tho. The Oil crash and Covid set DT back at least a decade, between unbuilt projects and people leaving for the burbs during covid.
Yes, unfortunately it was almost a lost decade, with about 5 years of declining oil prices and then COVID and its after effects for several years, which were both huge things mostly beyond our control.

We actually had a downtown that was coming along quite nicely in the mid 2010's. There will have to be more effort made, particularly by the city, but hopefully it can get back on track.

It would be a pretty easy fence to climb and with it all blacked out it gives people a great place to hide and get up to whatever they want. I guess it makes it harder to steal patio furniture?

My hope is that somehow the Feds add some funding that isn't part of this plan dedicated to downtown. It looks like the extra Housing Accelerator Fund cash we got is going into a student housing incentive that's part of this plan.

Hopefully it will allow them to get downtown street cleaning done faster in the future, still not sure why it is so late this year compared to elsewhere in the city.

He makes one good point.

"The solution would be making Downtown a low-tax or no-tax zone, scrubbing municipal development fees and reducing red tape, so that there is a discount for buying in a less desirable neighbourhood."

This is something most people want IMO. Spending taxpayer money on "information campaigns" that don't work is increasingly frustrating, and people would rather subsidize the revenue lost from lowering development charges. Without a financial incentive to do so, building around Alberta Avenue or Downtown will continue to dwindle in favor of suburban infill with its demonstrable history of returns.
