I've also been impressed with current version of Edmonton Chamber of Commerce compared to the past number of years. They seem more active/visible.
I had an interview with them years back (before Doug became CEO) and the CEO at the time showed up 30 minutes late to the interview, sat there in silence, then his only question was "what is the most evil thing you've ever done?"

I did not get the job.

I think it'll be nice to have downtown specific KPIs with numbers that can be shared to the public. It'll help with informing people how much downtown contributes, progress being made and attracting businesses, events and residents.

I mean the downtown population number is from 2021 and that's woefully outdated at this point.

I don't doubt we're behind in residential growth, but it'd be nice to get updated numbers considering we've had several hundred units come available in the market and a much lower residential vacancy rate compared to 2021.

Using 2021 numbers to promote downtown isn't the greatest in my opinion, but I understand that's the most recent data set we have available.

^kinda sorta, not really and we've been talking 20000 by 2020 since 2010... and are WAY behind on residential growth in the core.
We were on track for it until the mid 2010s tho. The Oil crash and Covid set DT back at least a decade, between unbuilt projects and people leaving for the burbs during covid.

The action plan mentions a 104 Street Grand Staircase capital project. Anyone have a clue what that is? First I've heard of it.

It's been around for 15 or so years now; basically a terraced switchback trail or stair combo from 98th-99th south of the old school.
