I didn't think it would cause any controversy to suggest that the lead lobbyist for car manufacturers in Canada has an interest in making getting around the city by bike harder for people by maintaining the car-centric status quo.
I don't think he is thinking he'll make money by killing those particular lanes, just that he has a generally aversion to bikes, which is probably motivated by his role.

I do, I think it's absurd. People like him, in the car business, are generally conservative and car-focused. That that is why they are most likely to be anti-bike-lane. It has nothing to do with the bottom line of whatever parts manufacturers he's involved with. That would be foolish as a business person to even concern yourself with something as piddling as a bike lane, or even many bike lanes.

He's not a business person. He's a lobbyist. His job is to try to make conditions in Canada more amenable for his constituents to thrive.

There is no chance he is doing this to increase sales for his clients. He is part of the business community, as a lobbyist for corporations and thinks as they do. This is barely on their radar. I'm not going to keep this going though!

The bike lanes on The Esplanade between George St South and Berkeley are apparently being put back next week - the white lines were finished a couple of weeks ago. ("the contractor is scheduled to reinstate the cycle track and raised stops during the week of April 28th.") As noted a few weeks ago, they will be done 'properly' as a raised path NEXT year when the work on David Crombie Park is, finally, supposed to start. The work east of George Street South is, I am told, due to be finished later in 2024.

I was riding past the messy job they did on the Esplanade, and crossed Princess westbound. I passed some construction vehicles to my left, where the bike lane effectively ends at Princess, but there were several pylons spaced wide apart that appeared to indicate a throughway over some metal plates. There was no signage or blockage, yet as I crossed the street some idiot in a truck shouted at me I was "riding through a work zone." These guys don't do the basics to cordon off areas, or put up proper signage, and the city does little to nothing to enforce whatever standards exist for site safety. I got hurt in one of these sites a few weeks back. Just be very very careful around any work crews, and never assume they have thought about your safety at all.

Just to confirm the timeline from here (https://www.toronto.ca/city-governm...id-crombie-park-revitalization-design/#header) is incorrect then?

"Spring 2025: Hire a construction team
Summer 2025: Construction for park and cycle track starts
December 2025: Construction for cycle track complete
Spring 2026 to Fall 2027: Construction for park improvements continues
Fall 2027: Construction for park improvements complete"

Yes, they decided to put back temporary cycle track and do the final work on it at same time as the Park. The tender was just posted:

okay, do you have a link to something with the new timeline?

technically posting the tender now still falls in line with the old timeline of "hiring a construction team" in Spring 2025 on the old timeline

I get it makes little sense to install temporary cycle tracks now if the plan is still to start installing permanent ones this summer, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happens

So there are plans to upgrade the cycling infrastructure on Danforth between Main and Victoria Park. I remember complaining about the changes made to the Main Street intersection before on this thread... though I did nothing about it ☹️. I will attend this upcoming Virtual Public Information Meeting and see what the plans are.

Glad to see this moving forward......
Here's the overview of the details:

Cycle Track will still be protected, parking will go to the traffic side and the cycle track moved up against the sidewalk.

I was told in an email from the Cycling team

Weekday western warriors be aware: the waterfront trail is closed through Col Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke, M-F 7am-4pm until some time in 2027. I encountered this detour sign h expectedly today forcing me to either bushwhack or backtrack. Guess which I did! It would be nice to have earlier signs in either direction rather than letting people hit a wall. But the hours and days of closure might make this difficult.
