That was for High Frequency, not High Speed, rail service. If nothing else, I'm not sure your could run 20 minute headways at that speed.

If they plan to run GO, freight and HSR on the Bala sub they're going to need more real estate. Also, isn't there going to be a subway line shoehorned in there? Co-mingling HSR with freight, both in Toronto and the Montreal area, with require electrification so that will be fun.

Are you referring to the Onttario Line?

Why would the speed impact headways? The Tokaido Shinkansen runs every few minutes. I think every 3-4 minutes.
On a dedicated tracks. And because it uses ATO the preceding train can adjust its speed because the system knows exactly where each train is.
Try doing that on a mishmash network of high and regular speed rail with no ATO between them.

In 2023 the expectation was about 15 Toronto->Montreal trains per day, express (new corridor) + local (Lakeshore corridor) combined. That would be about 90 minute frequencies on the HSR corridor if they're evenly distributed from 6am to 9pm.

This is the minimum. Any actual service on tracks they own will be market optimized. I don't see less than hourly. And I strongly suspect half hourly at peak.

I'm curious why everyone assumes a bridge over the river in Peterborough. If I was sending the train through Peterborough I would tunnel under. And that's manageable with cut and cover for a lot of the approaches.

That said, I accept that they aren't that bright over there and they'll be pushing for a suburban station.

In other countries that have high speed rail, easy connections to other modes of transportation feeds the high speed rail.

Similar to how greyhound used to work. The main hub routes link to more rural routes. Then they cut the rural routes which killed the whole thing.

The issue with this proposal is that you can't transfer to a slower train to hit the stops in-between. I guess you could once you get to Toronto or Ottawa. But it doesn't help anyone get to Kingston or Brockville.

They'll have the legacy network. What's the problem here?

Is it really necessary to insult people who might have a different view?

That sounds very expensive. With the grade needed, it would be a long tunnel, and may mean the station is part of that tunnel.

No, I was referring to the comment that HSR might use the CN Bala sub to "north of the 407".

Is that your concept of how it would get to the CPKC Havelock Sub? Up the Bala Sub from Union to the 407 and then in the media/shoulder of the 407 to the CPKC Havelock Sub?

It's really pretty straight. You have a mayor already advocating to stick a $60-80B line in a field outside the city before there's even any talk of sticking a shovel in the ground. I think it's fair to call ignorance like that "not bright".

If people take offence, they are telling on themselves.

There will be a municipal election in 2026. And then every 4 years after that. How much do you want to bet the location of the future station will become an election issue?

Putting a station anywhere but downtown would be irresponsible.
