Remains to be seen if the NDP can produce a decent platform. Some MLAs like Janis Irwin are absolute powerhouse representatives for their communities, but the stranded middle voter isn't going to be swayed by promises of improved social housing or rent control. People want a serious plan to crack down on crime and vagrancy, and a serious plan to manage Alberta's growth. Focusing on social policy and community support is a bullet to the foot when the voter is concerned about the state of their own home and finances.
It's not too late for the NDP to pull a Liberal Party and hard pivot into real issues and the economics of Albertan households, but the NDP under Notley only won because they focused on the voter base, rather than the most underrepresented. That meant higher minimum wage, heavier taxation of high-earners, and redirecting public funds into necessary services like health care & schools.
IMO for any real traction, they'll need to refocus.
