Another article on Parthi's situation/investigation.

Still only identifies the one site on Kennedy as being at issue. But the piece does claim to have more than one source saying they have heard of said allegation. The allegation being 'pay to play'

Toronto Centre is shaping up to be an interesting race. The incumbent councillor, Chris Moise, is expected to run again. He was elected handily in 2022 thanks to his profile as a TDSB trustee and the backing of local NDP and Liberal organizers.

He faces two left-leaning challengers: first-time candidate Curran Stikuts, a community volunteer and 519 employee, and returning candidate Walied Khogali Ali, a local tenant organizer. While most of the criticism of Moise has come from the right (hello Sankofa Square), there have also been murmurs on the left suggesting that Moise and his office can be somewhat insular and lacking focus. His handling of the Moss Park board may be indicative of a governing style that is often well-intentioned but unnecessarily messy.

As the incumbent, Moise will have an advantage, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Curran manages to give him a serious challenge.

I've heard lots from the left about Moise being unresponsive to the community and unwilling to listen to people. The Barbara Hall Park debacle being the latest, and Sankofa wasn't limited to just the right, that alone should put him on the backfoot.

So Moise could be this year's version of Gord Perks in '22?

That's an interesting comparison. Although the diaspora politics are different in Parkdale-High Park. Chemi Lhamo’s success came from a mix of left-leaning voters disenchanted with Perks and a massive turnout from the Tibetan community.

Edited for clarity.

Of course, it wasn't a victory over Perks (who still won) so much as it was an oppositional victory over John Tory-aligned opponent Siri Agrell, who was *supposed* to be Perks' main opposition...

I live in the ward and I emailed him a question about the deterioration of an abandoned property and after two weeks heard nothing, then suddenly he responded and literally said [paraphrased] "I've had some tech issues and been locked out of my email account for the past ten days, so was only able to respond to this now."

As a white collar worker, I know that you can do something that locks you out, and it can be an obtuse maze to navigate corporate IT to get your account unlocked, but for him to go "ten days" without getting it unlocked is astounding. In my job I would be required to figure it out within the same day, no exceptions, that he simply let that sit there for almost two weeks with no access to email is astounding.

He is actually a pretty decent Councillor who maybe suffers from the fact that he represents an area where many of his constituents had become used to Pam McConnell who would be hard to better in any area (and certainly not when your Ward is twice the size - thanks to Mr Ford!)

I live in the ward, and he has been a disappointment. But I think you're right, he's overwhelmed.

Can't remember where I heard this, maybe Steve Paikin on TVO's #onpoli podcast? Apparently some people are urging Nate Erskine-Smith to run for council in Beaches East York. Sure would make things interesting but same amount of constituents with less pay than an MP's salary can't sound too attractive...

@Northern Light knows NES better than I, but he's never struck me a municipal type of politician.

We're not 'close', but certainly we talk from time to time.

NES is an ideas guy; whether you agree with his or you don't.

His ambitions include making what he sees as a big difference.

Can't speak on his behalf on this, but I think its unlikely he would take a run at Council. If he did, I think it would be a stepping stone to something else (maybe the Mayor's Chair) or possibly something else.

$218,000 (MP base pay) to $180,000 for a Councilor. Mind you, one place to live, a lot less travel. A second pension too.

Chloe Brown announces she will run to defeat Crisanti in Ward 1.

“I want to try to bring north Etobicoke into the future,” she said in an interview with the Star Wednesday morning. “And I want to drag Doug Ford into the ground. I want to bring a close to ‘Ford Nation.’ That starts at the municipal level, where he got his start.”

"Brown said if elected she will antagonize Ford, who represents the same area at the provincial level. She said she wants to make a pledge to build bike lanes outside his office"
lmao

She would rather fight Doug Ford than represent the actual ward. She's tone deaf, the reality is, not everyone wants bike lanes, no matter how many studies there are, and that's their right. And the same reason why Doug still had a strong base.

If anything she'll help Vincent Crisanti win.

Just because she isn't doing what you think she should do, doesn't mean she's not representing the ward. (Should she get elected)
