Reports across the media this morning that Carney will visit the GG on Sunday and announce an election for either April 28 (earliest possible date) or May 5 (a week later).

Either way, it's only five or six weeks until it happens.

Indeed.

I fully intend to be a member of the Laurier Club by the end of the election.

Also.. side note. I changed the title of the thread to 45th Canadian General Election based on the fact I cannot count.

Carney better hurry up, as of the news yesterday he's short about one hundred candidates. Just don't rush it, or you'll end up with the likes of Jag Bhaduria, Raj Grewal, Ruby Dhalla, Kevin Vuong, Hunter Tootoo and the like and have to kick them out of caucus later on. On the other hand, would Carney welcome back Jody Wilson-Raybould or Jane Philpott if they were interested? I wonder how Carney would have handled the SNC Lavalin scandal if he were PM at the time.
Carney's got my vote. Just a couple of months ago I was sadly resigned to a PP majority, but now with Trudeau gone and a stunning surge in the polls for the Liberals, my confidence is restored. **** the CPC.
It would be great if he ran in my riding of Toronto Centre, though I wonder if former journalist Evan Solomon will be dropped in.

Evan Solomon feels more like a Spadina-Fort York kinda candidate?

Oops.

We are living in interesting times.

Short version for those who get paywalled: Ford is pissed at the federal Conservatives who keep saying he is "not conservative enough," and now that he's won the election (and Danielle Smith has blown herself up) he sees himself as the only true national voice of the party, so when PP came to ask for help he simply told him to GTFO.

And PP is more beholden to the old Reform/ex-Wildrose/UCP crowd - who would love to stick it to Ontario (the Laurentians) no matter who is the premier.

Is she unpopular? The next Alberta Provincial General Election is scheduled to be held October 18, 2027.
I think her national appeal tanked among soft Conservatives with seemingly supporting Trump while Ford went against. She definitely has a base, but she looks to have blundered the whole response to the situation to people outside of that base.

640 Toronto radio host Greg Brady is running for the Conservatives in Ajax, via Twitter.

Speaking of Ajax, Jennifer McKelvie, Scarborough-Rouge Park councillor and Deputy Mayor, might run for the Liberals in the riding.

That's the thing.

If the conservatives lose ground in Alberta due to Danielle Smiths allegiance to Trump it's likely to help the LPC.
Yeah, 338 now projects the Liberals will actually win several seats in Alberta, though that could be from NDP tanking.
They even show Liberals getting a majority of seats in Manitoba now, probably the same effect that almost all NDP votes are going to the Liberals.
