Carney better hurry up, as of the news yesterday he's short about one hundred candidates. Just don't rush it, or you'll end up with the likes of Jag Bhaduria, Raj Grewal, Ruby Dhalla, Kevin Vuong, Hunter Tootoo and the like and have to kick them out of caucus later on.
I actually think Carney has the ability to pull in a wide spectrum of very good candidates. Former QC Finance Minister Carlos Leitao will be running in Laval and Edmonton Mayor (and former LPC MP) Amarjeet Sohi will be running in Edmonton Southeast. There's word that they'll be pulling potentially conservative and NDP names as well, depending on who they might be.

That's the thing.

If the conservatives lose ground in Alberta due to Danielle Smiths allegiance to Trump it's likely to help the LPC.
It doesn't help that she's threatening a national unity crisis if Carney wins and doesn't meet her demands within 6 months.

Albertans may not like that a "gun grabber" will be running for Carney.

Yeah, 338 now projects the Liberals will actually win several seats in Alberta, though that could be from NDP tanking.
They even show Liberals getting a majority of seats in Manitoba now, probably the same effect that almost all NDP votes are going to the Liberals.
Re Alberta, it might not just be "NDP tanking", as a lot of past urban CPC vote might be seen as autopilot default rather than heartfelt--"Nenshi Liberalism" remains a thing.

And as for Manitoba, keep in mind how Winnipeg carries more than half the seats--and in '15's Justinmania, the Libs already claimed half of Manitoba's seats by nearly sweeping Winnipeg (w/one NDP holdout), while the Cons swept the non-Winnipeg seats other than Niki Ashton's Churchill in the far north...

Reports across the media this morning that Carney will visit the GG on Sunday and announce an election for either April 28 (earliest possible date) or May 5 (a week later).

Either way, it's only five or six weeks until it happens.
CBC now reporting it will be April 28.

Prime Minister Mark Carney will run in the Ottawa riding of Nepean, right next to the Leader of the Opposition's riding in Carleton. Looks like people of Ottawa will be making quite a bit of choices about party leaders!

I was a bit surprised by that choice. It would’ve probably gone CPC if the election was only a few months ago. I was expecting Toronto Centre. I really hope the LPC doesn’t dump Evan Solomon here.

The PM has a house nearby in Ottawa (and no, not Rideau Cottage, but his actual pre-PM residence), and Nepean is also a safe Liberal riding as well, except for the period when the riding boundaries where lumped together with Carleton, during that period, PP represented the riding. Unfortunately for you though, I am almost 100% certain that is where Evan Solomon is running....

I hate how the Liberal Party treats this area as a dumping ground for some of the most useless MPs. I’ll cast my vote elsewhere if that is the case.
