I was at the new Simons store earlier today; here are some of my observations:

  • The store only occupies the first two floors of the former Nordstrom space, resulting in a total area more comparable to other Simons stores. However, at 118,000 square feet, it is still larger than their two other stores in Ontario.
  • Design-wise, the interior deviates from their other stores as it retains elements of the former Nordstrom, such as the floor and ceiling. Natural light is less prevalent here than at Square One or at the Rideau Centre, but this is largely because they did not make use of the third floor.
  • Women's goods are on the main floor, while men's goods and home furnishings are on the second floor. I spent most of my time checking out the home section of the store.
  • The collection of handbags and other fashion accessories is more widely promoted at this store than in their other two Ontario locations.
I did not take photos of the store, but with the amount of coverage the store's opening received, one can easily get an idea of the space.

I wonder what the third floor is... stock? office space? Toronto HQ?

Did they remove the escalators up to the third level? or just hide/block them off

That looks like the former opening to the 3rd floor.
If there were offices up there, you'd think they would have kept the skylights visible.
Someone should check out the buttons in the elevators.
