Thought this was kinda fun... what should Edmonton's big yellow gantry be called?

Surrey Langley SkyTrain: Elevated Guideway Taking Shape!

We’re deploying four launching gantries—each over 100 metres long—to begin installing the elevated guideway. This is an important step in bringing rapid transit to Surrey and Langley.

These specialized machines will lift and place more than 4,400 precast concrete segments along the alignment, forming the backbone of the elevated guideway.

Each gantry is named after the community it serves:
1️⃣ Fleetwood Flyer
2️⃣ Langley Launcher
3️⃣ Surrey Sprinter
4️⃣ Clayton Clipper

The Fleetwood Flyer will be the first to go into operation at Bakerview–166 Street Station in the coming weeks, moving west toward 152 Street Station.

As these gantries move through the corridor, residents will begin to see the elevated guideway take shape—bringing the future SkyTrain into view.

Imagine the cost of having 4 of those on 1 project. Wow

Paging "Ric's Drone" videos. If you are on here, we sorely miss your videos of all things - Valley line, Hawrelak, Capital line and maybe one day - YH and 127st construction. Your videos are like crack to me......you turned me into a Ric's Drone videos "junkie."

One sad truth about this video are the parking lots at some of the strip malls on 104 Avenue. There are a bunch of Edmonton area residents who will continue to use cars, no matter what the efforts made to improve LRT. Unless parking is free, some people will not come downtown.

Tbh, I think the approach has worked. I’ve found the complete shutdowns not horrible and barely different in experience than general construction the last 2 years.

Let’s use this approach more.

P.S. if you agree, please email your councillor or the city so they consider this in the future.

Best part of these projects: seeing the streetscape integration really beginning to take shape. I feel for those in Glenora that have been impacted by years (esp. when you include pre-con utility work) of construction but this is going to be a delightfully urban corridor once complete.
