I think Vancouver has the elevated/underground rail is for a variety of reasons:
- uneven ground in some sections, How would you build the Skytrain on ground with difficult terrain?
- minimal land acquisition, especially where land is at a premium.
- in some sections, it costs lots to blast.
- the tracks cross Highway 1, other busy thoroughfares and sometimes rivers.
- Like Edmonton and Calgary, the Skytrain started along railways and arterial roads.

The lower mainland has different considerations, just like we do. It also helps that they’re the only big metro area in BC rather than us with two, dividing both political and financial capital.

At the end of the day, I’m fine with the Valley Line as is, and it might be a bit unpopular but I’m okay with low floor systems and don’t think they’re a waste. For an overglorified tramway I think it’s done a good job of avoiding the pitfalls of North American trams like Ion or Portland Max. It’s got good routes, decent speed and more importantly it’s got that 5 min peak hour reliability.

Thankfully they at least elevated at most of the right places. Overall they did not bad on the south part, with maybe one exception at 82 Ave.
I’d love to see crossing arms south of whyte if it means we can up the speed though. It doesn’t beat buses/driving enough imo. That’s a huge sell for trains often

Yeah, I get the allure of urban LRT in Streathern and Bonnie Doon, but past Davies what's the point if it's the only remotely 'urban' thing about 75th/66th. South of Grey Nuns it makes more sense if we do see redevelopment of MWTC.

I think LRT might not be that popular in SE Industrial.
It isn't. My employer moved right after the route was confirmed. We had also out grown that location but we could have moved just across the street into a bigger building but they choose to move all the way to 34th street.

This isn’t the right thread technically, but sharing here in case more people check this one vs others.

Provincial rail survey is open. Please share input!
