Welcome Mike Helm, President and CEO
May 20, 2025

The University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT) is excited to welcome Mike Helm as our new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective May 22, 2025! A proud University of Alberta (UA) alumnus, Mike brings two decades of experience in the Canadian commercial real estate sector. His strong foundation in finance and investment strategy will bring a world of opportunity for the development and direction of UAPT’s future.

Holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Alberta, Mike has also earned both the AACI and CCIM designations that reflect his deep expertise and commitment to this industry. Throughout his career, he has also built trusted relationships across the Canadian real estate landscape. His added background in market intelligence, financial analysis, and portfolio strategy will be invaluable as we continue to grow while also stewarding the University’s land assets with passion, purpose and care.

Most recently, Mike led a national investment platform at Altus Group. He directly oversaw the performance for some of the country’s largest institutional real estate portfolios. This included guiding teams through dynamic market conditions while aligning business operations with a focus on long-term goals, delivering results with both clarity and confidence.

Mike is also no stranger to the UA landscape. In a previous role, he directly oversaw all aspects of the University’s real estate portfolio which played a key part in shaping land and asset management strategies while supporting several major initiatives at the same time.

First residential footings poured. This is across from the 2 storey building.

The second pic looks to be a MUP that will connect east to Malmo.

The last pic is also the residential site.

Looks like a shit ton of housing units so for those of you who compare it to somewhere in YYC called “University City?” Hopefully this quells any more comparison convos…

Sure….it looks fine but for Jeebus sakes….ours has barely broken ground yet…..can we give it 6-7 yrs akin to your beloved YYC? Why not compare it to the tons upon tons of development going on in Griesbach and Centre In The Park in SP….thats apples to apples
