The link was posted earlier in the https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threa...tion-capacity-enhancement-m-s-ttc-aecom.29877 thread, where there's been discussion about this.
They're barriers, not doors. The "cheapest", not better nor best solution.

There are better ways of spending money, like having an ATO system that works in the rain or snow. Which is half the time.

Opposing a good idea, and one that will both save lives and improve service reliability because the ATC system has some deficiencies in need of remedy does not make sense to me.

I would like to see stats on how many people fall onto the tracks while the train is in the station. Because if that statistic is higher than people falling onto the tracks when there is no train in the station then those gates make sense. These gates are static and only prevent people from getting too close to the train in-between the doors. If we are going to install this system in 4 stations with the same money you are better off installing doors that open when the train is in the station and stay closed when there is no train occupying the platform.

I'm all for safety but it has to make sense.

Not just safety. It reduced track intrusions and reduces delays. Less fires too.

If there are only gates between the doors, how does that prevent garbage from falling into the track?

Don't get me wrong I'm all in favour for platform doors that open when the train enters the station. What I don't see a benefit for is these gates that are in-between the doors that have gaps where the doors are.
