I have to confess, after all these years, and despite using both Kipling and Kennedy, I often reverse them when speaking and writing.
I don't really have this problem if I'm allowed to stop and think, but I've often found myself using one of the center platform stations (I want to say St. George, but I didn't stop to take notes) that had the signage upgraded. When I'm thinking of where I'm going, I picture a mental map in my head of the city of the approximate location, and what direction I have to travel in, and when a train is arriving, I don't have the time to stop and think "wait.. Kennedy or Kipling?", and when you only have a couple of seconds to decide whether you're getting on the train or not, that matters.

Has there been any confirmation on how the line 1/2/4 trains will be updated to display the new lines 5/6 and future expansions? Are they overhauling the LED maps on the T1’s and TR’s or just keeping as-is?
There is no LED maps on the T1s. I assume they'd just update the current maps.

For the TRs they haven't touched the location of the LED bulbs since the cars first arrived in Toronto 15 years ago! I can't imagine they'd have any desire to touch them for a line that they won't even be running on.

I suspect they are praying that the Line 1 extension won't open until after the cars approach retirement age. Maybe at that point, they just cover it over entirely.

For the Toronto rocket trains a few years ago on Twitter (x) the TTC design account said that the lights for the transfer stations would be changed out and the announcement would change to say that it's a transfer station like it does now. That being said we're probably going to be seeing that happening around the same time that they change Eglinton West to Ceadervale in preparation for the line opening, when they change out the maps to show the new lines.

Hopefully it’s not too much to retrofit the TRs with illuminated single line maps. Or even better, screens with a dynamic single line map. At a certain point, the existing maps are obsolete.

Putting a static printed map and covering up the LED's is the cheapest solution and what I would expect from the TTC.

I am very pleasantly surprised about this.

Changed out? It's the same bulb surely ... or can most only do red and green? I'd have thought it would just be a software change.

The LEDs on the TRs wont be updated for the Eglinton Crosstown, they are going to remain the same and the Eglinton Crosstown will simply be printed/denoted on the printed maps. In what way, I dont know yet, but there wont be illuminated LED bulbs for Crosstown stations (safe for Eglinton and Eglinton West--soon to be Cedervale which are already present).

Yes, but above @EastYorkTTCFan said the LED's for Eglinton and Eglinton West to tricolour ones to indicate it's a transfer station. Do you know if that's no longer the case?

It was tweet a few years ago on the TTC design account.
Just because it's a tweet from the TTC design account, doesnt mean it will come true. Some things may, some things may not.

Just look at the passenger information screens in buses if you want further evidence of that.

Whatever. All I said was that they said at the time the plan is for only the lights that exist on the map to light up on the line so when a TR train arrives at Eglinton or Ceadervale stations or if they run lind 2 again for some reason or another the announcement would say the station name and to change for line 5 and the other two lights will blink like they do at other transfer stations. It's not that much work compared to the screens on the buses, compared to that it's as simple as printing a new map and reprogramming the voice announcements for the stations.

I think i'm fine with YUS using "Finch via Union" or "Vaughan via Union", it's a pretty quick indicator to me which way I want to go or not. For a tourist or someone visiting it's not intuitive, though.
Agreed about "Finch via Union". I think that's way more intuitive than north and south for Line 1, especially if you're going to the other side of the U. If I'm going from Osgoode to Eglinton I'm ultimately going north but I need to remember that I'm getting onto a southbound train that changes direction. You have to go south to go north. "Finch via Union" takes a lot less mental math to figure out.

Someone who's visiting or a tourist will usually be looking at a map when they get to the station anyway. I know I always do in a new city. Knowing that you're going towards Finch is foolproof. Trying to figure out if you have to go south to go north isn't.
