Paris installed half height porte paliere doors when automating Line 1, but installed 3/4 height doors on Line 4's automation, as they still had issues with people climbing over/throwing litter. The same height doors will be used on Line 13's upcoming automation.

While realistically I think this is the best option the balances safety, limiting debris on the tracks, while not having to fully enclose the tracks I think Line 1 ceiling heights are too low to still allow proper ventilation. Wonder if they could replace some of the glass panels with perforated metal.

It's definitely not overkill.
Seems to be to me. In the older stations with relatively low ceilings, all the way to the ceiling makes sense.

But if there's a 20-metre ceiling, I don't see the need.

If there's a 4-metre barrier, I don't think there'll be people getting over the barrier to kill themselves.

But if there's a 20-metre ceiling, I don't see the need.
That's the thing, PSDs with 20+ metre ceilings, do they even exist? On planet earth. All the PSD systems I have seen are open air with half-height or relatively low ceiling full height.

Less than full height ceilings are good enough, if they're high enough to make climbing extremely difficult.

Garbage being thrown on the tracks won't be fixed, but it would be better than the status quo.
