Great shot! The TD announcement explains why they painted part of the exterior black but left the orange underside untouched for now.

The Spec article had a few photos from inside. Could that be a covered LED ribbon board on the top level? It also mentioned that "a significant artist that will reopen the building in early December will be announced in a month or so."

I don't think the exterior underside of the stands will necessarily be painted green --- maybe just lit that way. And they might just not have finished painting yet.

I think that that may be the same LED ribbon that was always there. It is at the bottom of the upper deck.

Oh yeah, I forgot it had an existing LED ribbon. I was just never in there when it was on.

More news with a hockey franchise confirmed (although only by OVG, not the AHL): “We’ll have an announcement within the next 90 days,” he says. “But we’re excited that it will be an AHL franchise and we think that’s what the city and the southwest area needs, is a professional hockey team.”

I doubt it would be the Sens. Back in January, Michael Andlauer had indicated in an interview that he was going to keep them in Belleville amidst all the relocation rumours. Additionally, the article states that a source within OVG says it isn’t the Marlies either.

If the NHL does expand to 34 soon (Doug Armstrong, president and GM of the St. Louis Blues said in an interview Monday that 34 teams is potentially coming, when talking about the value of draft picks) there may be 2 new AHL teams in play in the near future. However, assuming new NHL teams in the frontrunner markets of Atlanta and Houston, there are no AHL affiliates nearby (closest are the Texas Stars in Austin and Charlotte Checkers), so there wouldn’t be any displacement of existing teams, and any of the new affiliates would likely be based in the southern US to be close to the parent teams.

I wonder if there are any AHL teams out there that have leases expiring next year.

Also read that OVG is negotiating with the city on a practice facility for the hockey team.

Makes sense since TDC sounds like it won't be available for practices. I wonder if it'll be making use of an existing facility with upgrades or something entirely new.

I am struggling to see how you can view a hockey game from the floor suites in the right-hand side of the picture above...

Those were built specifically for concerts. Maybe temp bleachers will be put in place for games?
Maybe they are being built to be optimized for concerts, but I don't think it would make sense for them to be exclusively for concerts.

I am assuming that it's either going to be a bad angle for hockey and/or I am not visualizing this correctly.

aren't they underground boxes? that's where you go to the bathroom, get your food, enjoy your drink and then you come up to your seat. at least at Scotiabank arena that's how the platinum boxes are designed.

How would anyone in them be able to see the stage over all the people standing on the floor?
I'm thinking there will be a move able riser of sorts for the boxes, you team really only need to be a foot or two above the crowd to have a line of sight to the stage.

I'm guessing the appeal is that you still feel part of the crowd / experience while having the luxury of your own private space and amenities.
