I went by again around 5 and it looks like they only pulled two out so far.

Apologies if it's been previously reported, but I don't see it in the last few pages.......first major retail tenant is signed.... this will not excite people I'm afraid.

Curious, to me, directly above this store is a 33,000ft2 space which I presume is aiming at a grocery format:

We're it not for that, I'd be wondering if LBL would think of flipping this to a small format NF.

wasn't the shoppers always part of the plan here? that's why they moved from parliament to the small drug-only location next door to here, with the intention to move to a big, permanent space in this building

That was one of the options for sure, as was leasing in the building that was to go up on the now defunct Shoppers location at the corner of Queen/Parliament.

But, Loblaw was not pursuing the mini-No Frills (ahem anti-Aldi) strategy back then; the downtown population also surged quite quickly in the intervening years.

I would beg to differ tbh. I think people in this area would happily welcome and really value a shoppers, and even another grocer. There are virtually no pharmacies in the corktown/distillery area. Another grocer would also be good. The grocery stores in this area are jam packed

I wasn't meaning locals, I was meaning UT'ers.

Shopper's Drug gets lots of grief here, understandably, I think, for heavy use of window film generally a deadening effect on street life with large amounts of frontage but low engagement w/the street.

Much like nail salons and dry cleaners they have utility and local uptake or there wouldn't be any....

But UT'ers tend to get more energized over interesting restos, funky fashion or furniture or something independent not over-done as a concept.

I assume it would be, and on the second floor, I would certainly support that. Of course, worth saying, Home and Power could not close a deal on a grocer in their nearby space, and the proposed grocer at the former Shopper's site was axed for lack of interest.

It'll be interesting to see, if they can close a deal, who they grab.

this is true. Though this stretch of Queen St needs whatever love it can get. So I'll take anything at this point

you're getting a bunch of new fancy furniture and furnishing stores opening up in the area. 158 Front has Cosentino and another one opening soon, Power's got home societe, Rove at 53 Ontario, and of course the beloved Blinds to Go at 318 King. And you're seeing a combination of fancier + middle range restaurants opening up in the area such as Bar Ardo and another bar/restaurant next to it opening soon, Kinton Ramen + Tahini's at 351 King. It's getting there

good point. I understand the rents home societe is paying are not low
